Locked tabs are not saved with latest beta

Post by dadep »

Hello,
with latest beta versions locked tabs are not saved when reopening the program.
I'm locking two tabs, save settings and configuration, close and open XYplorer and I have only the default tab.
I have Save Settings on eixit and Save to disk immediately applied to everything.

thanks in advance Regards
Davide

Can't reproduce

Make a copy of your XYplorer.ini file, remove the license info from it and attach it to your next post...

That's not active in that .ini...

And I can't reproduce that report even when I load your .ini file in the current beta

Ok, no problem. That's not so important.

I am resuming my post because I did some tests with another PC, loading the same configuration. On pc #2 tabs remain locked, on this one they don't. I also uninstalled, cleaned folders and registry and reinstalled the portable version.
The problem remains and I can't figure out where to troubleshoot. Is there any parameter I can enter by hand in the xyplorer.ini ?
Thank you

Get https://github.com/NickeManarin/ScreenToGif/releases
and record a .gif animation (as short as possible) that shows the problem with a _fresh_ instance

_fresh_ instance: Get the portable version, extract it into a folder in the root of a drive, do the recording for that one.

Ofc the recording should show the first start of that fresh instance, how you lock tabs, exiting & restarting it again and as a result of this how the tabs lose their lock...

Hello,
OK, in the new portable installation in C:\xyplorer\ the problem does not occur. But maybe I didn't understand where it loads the configuration from, because I copied my original xyplorer.ini (from C:\program files\xyplorer\data) to this installation in C:\XYplorer\data, but it doesn't load it (it always opens the default configuration).
This is the only feature is not working in my "real" instance. All other customizations (buttons, scripts, etc..) are working.
Something is wrong with me....

C:\program files\xyplorer\data
That is your XYplorer data folder? Seriously?

This is inside a UAC-protected folder^^
If you don't start XY with admin privileges it won't store its settings there (at least not if you didn't mess with the permissions of that folder)...

Hello,
I have again uninstalled and reinstalled using default setup folders (c:\program files for binaries and %appdata% for data folders) but unfortunately the problem persists. At this point I think there is some misconfiguration in the o.s.
To remedy this, it would be possible via script (which I am not able to write) to activate a custom event on startup that opens my folders and blocks the tabs?

If a fresh instance doesn't show this behaviour (and you've proved that with the .gif animation) it's unlikely that it's an OS problem.

Additionally I doubt that you've used the XY installer.
Why?
You are on a 64-bit OS (C:\Program Files (x86) folder exists) and your XY folder is / was in C:\Program Files which is the 64-bit variant.
That's not the destination folder that the installer would use...

That info looks correct

And now do me a favour and record the same .gif animation again with this XY instance (that the lock of tabs get lost).

attached the animated gif

I'm trying to automate via script with following code, but on startup appears a box with the commands, instead of running them

tabset("load", "Default"); --> which are my two folders I want to lock
tab("lock", , 1);
tab("lock", , 2);

It's not "just" that you're losing the lock of the tab, you're losing the complete tab...

Run XY
Create a new tab, lock the location
Save your settings (don't quit XY!)
Go into your %appdata%\XYplorer\Panes\1 folder
Open the pane.ini file
Scroll down to the [Tabs] section

Show the section content here
