Network share not requesting credentials

I've had this issue over the years, and it seems to be back again, where I go to \\fooserver\C$ and am never asked for credentials... eventually it times out and states that there are invalid credentials.

This works in Windows Explorer and Directory Opus, but XYplorer just shows server not available. I've tried various settings, and have ensured that "Cache Network Servers" is unchecked.

It's the one thing stopping me from using it at work, and I miss all the functionality.

Any advice would be appreciated.

I want to add that I've removed the "\AppData\XYplorer" folder and just let it start over with stock settings; same problem.

So you can access normal shares on that server but it fails (only) with administrative shares?

In our work environment we have more than one identity, some for performing administrative functions via shares. So normally we're forced to authenticate as a different user in those scenarios.

Any administrative share (C$), or share which requires authentication, fails.

If I authenticated previously to the (C$) using Windows Explorer, XYplorer will then work fine.

Any network share which doesn't need credentials works fine.

XYplorer used to present authentication pop-ups which once submitted all was fine. It doesn't do that any more.

Are you aware of any XY version that worked previously?

I'm afraid I'm not sure exactly. I started using DO well over a year ago, but then missed the feel and features of XYplorer and wanted to come back. However, authenticating to network shares has worked in the past; it would present the logon user/password dialog then all was fine. Somehow, that action is no longer presented when required.

I should add I'm on latest release 25.40, licensed user, etc.

You say it worked about a year ago. Could you verify this by testing an older version from https://www.xyplorer.com/freezer.php? Thanks!

That's a great idea, and I took 19.40; the issue is NOT there.

I'm now going to work my way up the releases to see if I can find the one where it changed, and compare .ini files.

This problem is _consistent_ - I have replicated this multiple times and for particular versions.

I used the freezer downloads .zip file(s) to do comparisons.

The most recent version of XYplorer which prompts for credentials when navigating to a C$ admin share is 20.70.000 (Jan 28 2020). Various tests for versions after that all failed, including the most recent build. Versions priorto 20.70.0000 (I tried a few in each version) all worked.

Here is a comparison of the DATA folder .ini file, if that helps. Note that I don't think it has anything to do with the .ini settings; I replaced the DATA folder in the 20.80.0000 folder with the working 20.70.0000 version and the 20.80.0000 version still has the issue.
