Long responding times / freezing

Post by iveees »

Hello,

I installed the software two month ago. After testing it for several weeks I bought it, it worked fine until two weeks ago. Since then it takes very much time to respond, roughly 10 seconds per click. I tried to deinstall and reinstall it, version 25 and version 24.90.0100, several times. It's still the same. I also exluded it in the Windows defender. Sometimes, when I'm pulling files from the explorer to somewhere else, the attached alert pops up and it freezes completely. Then I need to shut it down.
It's quite frustrating beacuse I really loved it before. Is there any way to fix this?

Thank you very much
Ivan

10 seconds per click ... what kind of click is that?

I mean, when i click/press with my mouse on any file or folder in the explorer it freezes for roughly 10 seconds, only then it opens the file/folder. It's not happening all the time, but very often.

Try to untick these to see if it makes a difference:

1. You are talking about left-clicks, right?
2. Is any preview pane open while you select a file?

Yes, I'm talking about left clicks, there are no previews. But even between switching different tabs it's the same. I need to mention that it's not happening all the time. At the beginning of the problem it happened very often, now not so often anymore. When this happens, in the task manager the percentage of my harddisk rises up to roughly 50%, the system uses the most. Normally it's only about 1%.

Can you provide a screenshot of the entire XYplorer window when it happened again?

Hi,

I made a video, otherwise it's not understandable:

As I said, this doesn't happen all the time, but fairly often. Sometimes the responding times are way longer than in the video.

Best regards
Ivan

Yes, I'm talking about left clicks, there are no previews.
Interesting. Why does the video show that you're working with .pdf previews then?
When this happens, in the task manager the percentage of my harddisk rises up to roughly 50%, the system uses the most.
Open the resource monitor, switch to the "Disk" tab, expand the "Disk Activity" entry and show a screenshot of which task produces the high read or write values.
Ofc while the task manager shows the 50%^^

Apart from that, create a fresh XY instance (enter: fresh; in the address bar, hit the {ENTER} key).
Is the same reproducible in it as well?

Hi,

I recorded another example with much longer reacting times. Like this it's clearly visible that it's not possible to work that way:

Thanks

Hi,

attached is the screenshot. I tried to open a new instance with fresh; and it worked normal. Even though the first instance completely froze, the second one worked perfectly. Until I switched to the same path than the first one, then it slowed down as well. It was Dropbox. I mostly work online with Dropbox. Could that cause the problem?

Now I figured it out, it's really Dropbox. Every time when it's synchronizing, XYplorer is kind of freezing. Are there settings to prevent this?

So that G: drive from the video is:
[ ] Really a normal local drive with a DropBox subfolder
[ ] A mounted (online) drive connected to your DropBox account
?

If it started 4 weeks ago and was working fine before I'd get earlier versions of XY and downgrade step by step to find the version where the behaviour changed...

You can get each version from the beta release notes:

It's a normal local drive with a Dropbox subfolder.
At the beginning I already installed the version 25 and it was working fine.
After the problems began, I tried a lower version but the problem remained.

As soon i pause the Dropbox synchronization, it works perfectly again.
