The Glider™
"The Glider"... it may not be the final name, but this is the next killer feature, and it's so hot, everyone will steal it. You move the mouse over the area in the tree to the left of the nodes, and for each node the Glider, a floating mini toolbar, magically appears, offering the two most basic file management buttons: Copy and Move. Clicking them will copy or move whatever is selected in the list to the node the glider is pointing to. A one-click-wonder. Everyone has always wanted this (subconsciously), everyone will get it immediately because it's so natural, it's a game changer.

Re: The Glider™
Is it always shown or only if there's at least one selection somewhere else? How about clipboard items?
I would call it Target Flyout.
The idea is cool.

Re: The Glider™
I don't use tree so I won't comment, but it would also be useful to have a floating toolbar.

Re: The Glider™
Clipboard would need a 3rd button "Paste".
I'd say it's shown only if there's at least one usable selection (or clipboard).

Re: The Glider™
It will be very useful whatever it's called. I'm curious about getting to a target tree folder currently out of view in the tree. I assume we will still, in some manner, need to scroll (or use up or down arrows) to get the target tree area into view first similar to what we do now or something else?

Re: The Glider™
Yes. However, it might be an idea to have the tree scroll when the mouse hovers over the top or bottom edges. But that's another topic.

Re: The Glider™
By the way, for the leftmost nodes, a vertical glider is the solution:

Re: The Glider™
+1 for "Glider".
other considerations could be "FolderFly" or "FolderFlight".

Re: The Glider™
Well, there is no space for lots of buttons. It cannot be wider than the tree (at least that's the way I designed it ATM).

Re: The Glider™
We'll see. Phase one will be the 2 or 3 basic button version.

Re: The Glider™
The restriction to the tree isn't a technical one, right? If a clipboard is a valid trigger condition it could be applied to folders in a list as well.
Copy, Move, Paste: the trinity of file management meets smart targets, the circle is closed now.

Re: The Glider™
That's what I was thinking. If the edge of the Glider starts to touch the upper or lower edge of the tree, the Glider would initiate the scroll so you could access (target) a folder above or below what's currently visible and also expand nodes if need be.
