Not Seeing All Partitions in User-Defined Commands

Post by phred »

Using 24.40.0200 on Win10 Pro.

I first noticed this around mid-April (24.30.0100) when I first started using UDCs, but it may have been happening before that. Or perhaps it's the intended behavior.

When creating a new UDC > Go To (or Open or Open With) and browsing for the location, only the current user path is shown in the file picker.

Doing the same but with UDC > Move To (or Copy To or Backup To) the file picker shows all partitions.

I have tried launching XY as admin and get the same behavior. I have also tried with a fresh instance of 24.40.0200. The only way I can create a new UDC is to type in the entire path.

Thanks for any insight.

I just tried with 23.80.0200 and am seeing the same issue. It's got to be something unique to my setup, but I have no idea where to start looking.

It may be the only place in the app where this dialog is used to open files and folders. All other places just open folders. But as I said, it works fine here. I also have no idea where to start looking.

I was afraid you'd say that.

I'd still like to know if anyone else can reproduce this.

I also wonder how many users actually use "Go To" to go files (and not folders) or even know that this is possible. So, if you're not the only one, a simple solution would be to change it into a normal "select folder" dialog. The "select file or folder" dialog is so clumsy anyway when folders are large.

This sounds like it would work. Although from the lack of response to the issue, it appears I'm the only one running into this. Or else no one is using UDCs except me. Which I find unlikely.

I developed a work-around yesterday where I copy the path from an existing UDC and paste it into a new one. At that point, even before saving, I can use the browse button to navigate to the correct file. Note that doing this also brings up the "select file or folder" dialog, but with all partitions showing.

Thanks. So an existing special path like "phred" is not enough. It has to be an existing real path. Win 11 is a joke.

Should be fixed in the next beta. I won't mention it in the change log, it's too embarrassing for Microsoft. :)

Microsoft needs to be publicly embarrassed. But no need to put in in the change log. I'm just happy you were able to get it resolved. Even if it is/was the fault of MS.

And btw - I'm on Win 10, not Win 11.

Thanks for sticking with this, Don. Much appreciated.
