Sort by Date Last Saved?

Post by zoso69 »

Hi

I have downloaded a lot of folders and I don't upload those folders for 2-3 weeks, but I am still downloading in the interim. I need to know which folders are the oldest so I can upload the oldest folders first. I know that Windows 11 has a Date Last Saved column, which gives me what I need and I can easily sort by that column, but I would much prefer to do this in XYplorer. With XYplorer I can only see Date Last Created, Modified or Accessed and none of these give the correct information.

Does XYplorer have anything like a Date Last Saved column?

Thanks!

Add a column, Select Property..., choose the "Date Last Saved" one?

That's great, didn't know about that. Thank you! I've added the column, but it has no entries though. I've tried refreshing but it makes no difference.

Show a screenshot of these folders (which contain the name and at least: date modified and date last saved columns)

You are downloading these folders with an application (which one)?

Hi

Screenshot attached. The screenshot I just created and saved to the same folder doesn't appear in the Date Last Saved column either.

The folders were created with the BitTorrent app BiglyBT.

So in Explorer, you have occasions when the "Date Last Saved" columns date is different than the "Date Modified" column for normal files? In XYplorer that column is only filled for document files, doc, xls etc., and would only differ from Modified in those cases.

Ah, so it doesn't work with folders, only files?

The date will be the same as modified, are you saying the dates are different in Explorer?

Yes, but I am talking about folders, not files.

I'm currently not at home...

Google doesn't spit out a lot for "Date last saved" for folders (where is that information actually stored?)...

And I know "Date last saved" mainly for Office files where it's part of the "normal" metadata of that file

If you have a folder in Explorer where the dates differ between Date Modified and Date Last Saved columns, try looking for a hidden file called desktop.ini in the folder, and post the content.

edit: I sussed out how it works for folders, and for me the "Date last saved" shell property column is filled when the data is available, I made a custom column which also works, but it is strange the "Date last saved" column isn't filled for you though, anyway if you post your desktop.ini it is possible to do via a custom column. Until now I wasn't aware of this method of saving metadata to a folder.

Hi Jupe, sorry for the delay, I've been away.

Sample desktop.ini file data is below (I wasn't able to attach it). Re the 'green' data, I'm using a freeware utility called Folder Marker that enables you to colour folders. I seem to think you can do this in XYplorer, but I don't know how, so I turned to FM instead.

[.ShellClassInfo]
IconFile=%FOLDER_MARKER_DIR%\icl\fColors.icl
IconIndex=4

[{F29F85E0-4FF9-1068-AB91-08002B27B3D9}]
Prop5=31,Green

[FolderMarkerInfo]
Tag=Green

And you're sure that that file is from within a folder that definitely displays a date in the "Date Saved" Explorer column that differs from "Date Modified"? That file looks like it is from just a normal folder where both dates match in Explorer.

XYplorer should show values in the "Date Saved" column for folders, (like my screenshot) but only if they differ from Modified, make sure you are testing the exact same folders in Explorer and Xyplorer.
