Date taken/time wrong for file type NEF

Post by sandervdcoevering »

Dear all I have noticed that the date taken for file type NEF ( NIKON RAW Files) is wrong.

Question from my side; I want to add files for an example but pdf gives an error message.

How helps a PDF for problems with an image file ?
Make a zip archive with a smaple NEF file and attach it.
Windows 11 Home x64 Version 23H2 (OS Build 22631.3374)
Portable XYplorer (actual version, including betas)
Everything 1.5.0.1371a (x64), Everything Toolbar 1.3.2, Listary Pro 6.3.0.69

I become the error message that ZIP file is too large 10.1 Mb. A simple NEF file( RAW Image Nikon) is not less then 10 MB.

Converting to a smaller size is not possible i didn't find any converter on the internet?

Do you have other suggestions?

Store it on some cloud storage and provide a public link.
Or provide a link where to download sample NEF files.

Hi friend
It's important to ensure that the date and time information in NEF files is accurate for organization and reference purposes. As for the issue with adding PDF files, it would be helpful to provide more details about the error message in order to troubleshoot the problem.Networth

Dear all

In the list of Exif information I see the following parameter:
DateTimeOriginal - 2021:11:20 15:51:24

It looks for me the same as Date taken. Am I right? How is this in comparison with standard JPG?

I don't know the Exif standard and its not my job to interprete it :)
But at least Windows Explorer displays DateTimeOriginal in this case as Date modified.
Wait what Don thinks about this.

Dear All

One comment from my side

As you can see in the attachment of my reply Date taken is presented in Windows file explorer. How is Windows doing this when date taken is not available?

What I have shown in my screenshot is from a actual Windows 11 Explorer
with the files downloaded from your link.
Don't know what versions and additional software you have installed.

Dear All

I don't use other software or plugins in windows explorer for listing Date taken,.. I did show investigation and Date taken is the same as Date/Time Original: (2021:11:20 15:51:24) in the exif information. In the attachment you will find a text file with all the Exif information ( file is generated by File Info viewer plus).

1) What is your Windows version?

2) Look for "Date taken" in this list:
Configuration | Information | File Info Tips & Hover Box | Show file info tips | Select Standard Fields...
Which number has it?

3) Select your NEF file and run this line through the XYplorer address bar: echo <prop System.Photo.DateTaken>;
Do you get a date?

Tested with his files.
The Date taken is item 12 in my list.
The echo shows nothing
which conforms to what the Explorer says in Date Taken column.
