Crash when viewing Google Drive folder with lots of images

Post by elcastigador »

Hello, I'm a recent convert to XYplorer. I do a lot of graphic design and as part of that, browse folders on my organization's Google Drive with lots of images.

Almost every time I open one of our stock image folders (200+ high-res images) XYplorer crashes immediately. No warning, no error.

This has made using the product very tough. I'm not sure if this is a known issue or not.

I followed all the troubleshooting steps from the Google Drive side already (sign out/in, clear the cache, uninstall/reinstall), but that didn't help.

Any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks all.

It crashes in all views (thumbnails, list, details, etc.)

I would like to view the folders in thumbnail view if possible though.

How do you open that folder?
Is it only that one folder?

I am using the Google Drive for Desktop app which mounts it as a network drive essentially.

The crash happens regardless of how I open the folder (navigating directly to it, opening it via a program like photoshop, or anything else I've tried so far)

This happens with a few folders that are mostly images. Anything folder that isn't primarily images seems to work fine.

... opening it via a program like photoshop?

:eh: Sounds weird. It all may be a misunderstanding. Can you provide a screenshot of the entire XYplorer window right before the crash, and tell exactly what next click or key will cause the crash?

I have XYplorer set to replace windows explorer as the default. So if I am browsing for files in the photoshop explorer window it's XYplorer.

I will try to grab a photo next time I can, but it's just the browser window until the crash.

This is absolutely false, XYplorer doesn't replace Explorer like that, the only time XYplorer is involved is when you are in the XYplorer main window, and if you are getting crashes in the Photoshop window then that means the cause of the crash is elsewhere.

You are right. Sorry, was trying to do this all from memory. Both windows explorer and XYplorer crash when opening the folders mentioned. I conflated the two.

Here is a video of the crash: https://youtu.be/k1e1Hlyt8HQ

Watched the video, I can't tell but it looks like when it crashes you aren't clicking to select a file, just hovering?, if that is the case, to me it looks like InfoTips could be causing it (in both Explorer and XY) so as a troubleshooting step try disabling this:

Configuration | Information | File Info Tips & Hover Box | Show file info tips

While you're there you might as well also temporarily disable this if you have it enabled:

Configuration | Information | File Info Tips & Hover Box | Show Hover Box

and try closing the InfoPanel, with F12.

Yes, this happens without clicking on a file. I will try that and report back.

Thanks!

Unfortunately, the crash continues to happen even after taking those steps.

Both
- Configuration | Information | File Info Tips & Hover Box | Show file info tips
- Configuration | Information | File Info Tips & Hover Box | Show Hover Box
are unticked and you get a crash when hovering the file caption with your mouse? :eh:

On particular files?
Always?

Yes. I turned off everything in the File Info Tips & Hover Box section.

The crash only happens when opening folders with large amounts of images.

It happens whether I hover over the files or not though. It's just loading the folder itself that causes the crash. It will open for about two seconds, the cursor will pinwheel, then the application will crash.

This doesn't happen for folders that aren't all large images.
