Custom Copy - Move - doesn't always actually move the files

Custom Copy - Move operation - doesn't always actually move the files.

Version: 24.20.

Sadly it seems intermittent (i.e. the hardest of all things to 'debug').

I'd noticed it a couple of times recently, but last time I specifically became conscious of it was moving a file from the user Downloads folder to another folder on the hard drive.

Is it a problem, or am I missing something about Custom Copy with move operations?

I experienced this in a few of the 22.xx versions using drag and drop from the file list to a desktop link to another drive on the PC. The file in fact was moved, but it still showed in the source folder. Hitting F5 (refresh) removed it from appearing in the source folder even though it wasn't really there.

I stopped noticing it somewhere in the early 23.xx series. I never got around to posting a report here because I couldn't pin down the exact cause and it wasn't consistent.

Thanks @phred.

In the instance I mention, the file was definitely still present in the source (downloads) folder (checked it in Explorer), though it was also present in the new destination folder - it had been copied, but not moved.

And I tried the move multiple times in XYplorer to be sure I wasn't hold down Ctrl, etc.

Never heard of such a problem (up to now). But e.g. if a file is locked by another process, it cannot be deleted. So here is one possible cause of it. BUT: in such a case you should be notified:

The Reports button in the progress dialog gives you all the details:

But since it's intermittent you should enabled "Create log file" in Configuration | File Operations | File Operations | Custom Copy Operations | Configure....

:!:  Are these inter- or cross-volume moves?

Mine were cross-volume. A file on disc 1 (D: partition) moving to a directory on disc 3 (X: partition)

I got this bug today. No matter what, Xyplorer simply would not cut or copy a group of files. Couldn't paste, got the "Use Custom Copy to move more than one file [with long name]" or something like that. The same files were then cut+paste with File Explorer (Windows 11) without hassle. Unlike previous poster my files from and to were on same volume, simply moving into a new folder.
