InDesign icons not showing up

Hi all,
I went through the forum a bit, but I see that this issue still hasn't been solved. Like the title says, InDesign icons in xyplorer are wrong - all the other Adobe icons show up correct, as you can see in the attachment. This was the case with the previous windows installation on the same machine (64bit Win 10 Pro) as well, although the .indd icons were the generic white ones, instead of the generic app ones like now.
Adobe CC suite is installed on C drive (InDesign path is C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe InDesign 2023\InDesign.exe).
Opening the program through the files works well regardless of the icons, so this is just a nuisance really, but I thought that it should be noted.
Thank you in advance, and thanks to the dev and the community for making this essential program as great as it is.

Apparently it is not correctly registered (it's missing in the 32-bit branch of the registry). You can work around this using Custom File Icons in XYplorer.
BTW, do you get a preview and thumbnails for these files?

Hi, and thanks for the quick reply. I will try that, I just have to find out how to extract the icons from the dll from here: C:\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\Shell\CC.2023\icons.dll. I'll figure it out.
As for your question, no, I don't have the preview or the thumbnails, and I would be surprised if I did, as some of my indd files can grow up to few GBs. I would expect quite a bit of slowdown if XY would try and preview those...

1) if the icons are the same as the EXE: indd>[path to InDesign.exe]
2) Does File Explorer have preview/thumbs?

Hi,
1) Unfortunately, it is not, there are multiple InDesign file types - normal file, book file, package file, old indd versions, etc... Check the attachment for an example. I'll just extract the icons from it and use that.
2) Ok, unexpectedly, Explorer does give a mushy preview of the first page, but it displays the number of pages completely wrong. Also in the attachment.

No thumbnails in Explorer?
And in the latest XYplorer beta version (v24.20.0014), do you get a preview or thumbnails?

HI,
I just checked, no thumbs or preview in the latest no-install beta. Also, Explorer doesn't provide thumbnails either, just large icons.

You should get a preview if you untick *.indd in Configuration | Preview | Previewed Formats | Category: Preview as Thumbnail.
Additionally you probably have to tick either of these:
Configuration | Other | Shell Integration | 64-bit Windows | Use 64-bit preview handlers for preview
Configuration | Other | Shell Integration | 64-bit Windows | Fall back to preview handlers of the other bitness

OK, I just unticked the indd from categories -> preview as thumbnails and I've got the preview. Number of pages is wrong, it shows 2 instead of idk how many from memory for that specific file (more than 10), but the preview is working. Of course, this is all in the latest beta, no-install.

Cool, thanks for trying!
The wrong page number is the fault of the preview handler.

Do you know maybe if there is a way to manually register the dll for 32bit branch, and do you think it would help solve the icon issue? I'm just curious.
BTW No problem, thanks for taking the time to talk about this.

You can try it. This should be the place:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node
