Does not display PDF preview

Post by mduke »

Hi, I have downloaded the demo versions of XYplorer. I am very impressed with the program, however, all my pdfs from different folders don't show on preview. Images, AI files etc all show, just PDF files don't show up.
I went to settings to check and there is a PDF extension already available and box ticket. Not sure what am I missing here. Appreciated for any help, thank you everyone.

Thank you! I tried that, but unfortunately I cannot uninstall Adobe and second the PDF-XChange Viewer is not available for downloading in my location until further notice according to them.
I guess my journey ends here with XYplorer................ :((

You can do the same by using: https://www.sumatrapdfreader.org/downlo ... pdf-viewer

When you start the installer, click on the "Options" button in the lower left corner and make sure to select at least:
[x] Let Windows show previews of PDF documents

The "User-Defined Preview Handler" for it is: pdf>{3D3B1846-CC43-42AE-BFF9-D914083C2BA3}

Thank you, this time it worked. Appreciated.
This created another issue that I need to install a third party application.
I hope XYplorer would have it native support.

Nobody has native support for PDF apart from specialized PDF software. It's not trivial.

But, while Adobe is not ideal, the PDF-Preview should work with Adobe somehow. Might need some configuration. What's your Windows version and what's your Adobe version?

When I was using Foxit PDF, I could view PDF files without issue. I had both Office Files and *.PDF ticked (under previewed formats).

I recently changed to NitroPDF and now cannot view PDF files inside XY.

Is there a "magic number" I can use to make it work as in an earlier post?

BTW, how does one find the "magic number" for a program?

Or will you have to kill me if you tell me... :lol:

Did you enable 64-bit preview?

E.g. via shellexview from NirSoft or by looking into the registry (viewtopic.php?p=208057#p208057)

Your PDF-XChange CLSID is for the very old and discontinued PDF-XChange Viewer.
You should add a note to it like: *DEPRECATED

It seems to be the same for Foxit...

Your CLSID for Adobe is not for the Reader DC version?

Code: Select all

Current CLSIDs (tested with the current downloadable versions)
==============
Adobe Acrobat Reader DC         [v2022.003.20322] : {DC6EFB56-9CFA-464D-8880-44885D7DC193}
PDF-XChange Editor/Plus/Pro     [v12.1.1.15289]   : {9B68BDF7-95F9-4A1F-851C-27D822F8E3E9}
Foxit PDF Editor (Pro) & Reader [v9.5 Build 366.0]: {1B96FAD8-1C10-416E-8027-6EFF94045F6F}
Nitro PDF Pro                   [v13.70.2.40]     : {7347baa5-ddad-428a-bbed-3a95b53237f7}

Whenever there is a new tip posted on this, I give it a go, only to be disappointed again and again.
I haven't been able to get a bigger MDBU or Hover preview for PDF's any bigger than about 30x40mm for quite some time now, which unfortunately doesn't help much.
