Need Help - Getting Error: 9 (0x00000009) ...

Post by cfguy101 »

Hi Everyone,

I have been getting "Error: 9 (0x00000009)" a lot recently, which, once it occurs and I close the error message screen, keeps popping back up until I am forced to physically close XYplorer and then re-open it again. :(

Error details (pasted from clipboard copy) are below and a screenshot is also attached.

Any ideas what I could do to prevent this in the future?

Thanks so much for your help with this. :appl:

Hmm, interesting. We'll fix that. The next beta version has additional error handling that will provide a better problem resolution. I'll upload it later today. Please try it.

Would have loved to fix this, but apparently cfguy101 is the only one getting it, it was in 23.90, and she's gone. :| Well, it's probably fixed in 24.10 anyway.

Still broken for me. XY 24.10 with folder size off. Happens when I change directories. I double-click a directory, wait 30 seconds, press Esc because it isn't working, asks me to abort, I say yes. After a few of these messages, I get error 9. XY 24.10 is currently unusable.

Also with a fresh instance (no changes in config)?

Correct. I wiped out the temp folder and the config folders in %APPDATA%. I also tried the portable version. Seems to be only happening when there are a few pdfs in the directory I am trying to switch to. I am currently scanning my drives to see if I have any bad sectors but there is nothing reported in SMART.

1) Also when you untick Configuration | Information | File Info Tips & Hover Box | Show file info tips?

2) Show the error message.

1) That seems to have made things better. I am now able to access these directories albeit still pretty slow. Roughly 5 seconds to change into a directory. As a test, I repeated the same actions in Windows Explorer and FreeCommander and there were no issues.

2) Can't seem to repeat the error message but things are still slow so it might pop up again.

I did find the crash in the Windows Event logs if it helpful. It's in reverse order.

2) Can't seem to repeat the error message but things are still slow so it might pop up again.
1) Totally weird. Accessing a directory should be instant. Are you showing any special columns?

2) Does not help. I need the error 9 message from XY. And I need it from v24.10.0001 or later.

Isn't it strange that this important bug is now totally let down by its reporters? Would love to fix it but no chance without your cooperation. :|

Hi Again,

>>Isn't it strange that this important bug is now totally let down by its reporters? Would love to fix it but no chance without your cooperation.

Apologies for delayed reply. Things have been more busy than usual for me. Plumbing problems (finally have a plumber scheduled for next week) and also my a/c has been down - not fun since the weather has been warming up here in FL. Currently deciding on new A/C options, and believe I have found a good manufacturer and installer. One more thing to schedule ...

I antd to let you know that I just installed latest XY version (24.20) a few minutes ago, and will let you know if this helps with my situation.

>>1) Also when you untick Configuration | Information | File Info Tips & Hover Box | Show file info tips?

I just found this setting and checked on it. Looks to me like I never had "Show file info tips?" checked, but I am attaching a PNG screenshot of these settings (filename: XYplorer - Configuration_Information_File Info Tips & Hover Box_Show file info tips (as of 2023-03-04).png), so that you may let me know if this setting is the way you want it to be ...

>>2) Show the error message.

If by this you mean "screenshot" of error code, I did post this in my initial post, but will attach it again to this message (filename: XYPlorer Pro Error 9 (Screenshot - 2023-02-16).png), and if I have any future problems with the error code occuring, will take a new screenshot of error message and post it. Let me know if "show [screenshot of] the error message" is what you meant by this, and if not, please be more specific on the information that I need to gather and post for you.

Thanks so much for your help with troubleshooting this error message. Please do let me know if there is any additional information you need that would be helpful, or if my settings (based on posted screenshot) are not the way you recommend them, to prevent future occurrences of this error.

Additionally, I will post again if the error message re-appears (with a new screenshot of the error), since updating to version 24.20.

Thanks.

Hi All,

Received my first "Error 9" this evening, several days after the version 24.20 update. Copied text of error code will follow and screenshot is attached to this post, for your reference. XYplorer locked up after displaying this error, and when I forced it closed (using Ctrl-Alt-Del, "end task") and then re-opened it, it has been acting very slow and "buggy". Simple tasks, such as renaming a file, result in endless hang-ups, white screens with and spinning blue circles, then I am able to right arrow just a few characters, and white screen with spinning blue circle again, and I eventually have to force new program run closed. I think my computer might need a reboot for it to (hopefully) work normally again.

Anything else I should be looking into (settings, etc.) that might prevent future "Error 9s"? Thanks, as always, for all of your help and support.
