Can XYplorer display .webp files as thumbnails?

I have XYplorer version 24.00.0700
I have some .webp files that thumbnails of the image do not show. Other file types do.
They are static photos and not animated.

I have Windows 10 64-bit 22H2 and the Windows explorer folder can view the thumbnail and I can see it when just on the Desktop.

It was not listed until I used 'Find' in the upper right of the screen you suggested and typed in: webp
and there it was and it was unchecked. I checked it and it now displays the files.

I have the same issue with webp, but all the boxes are ticked, both in Previewed Formats - Image Files and under Preview as Thumbnail
XYplorer shows previews on mouse over and with mouse down blowup, but not the thumbnails. There I only see the icon of Xnview.
I also cleared the thumbnail cache and regenerated to no avail.
Windows Explorer also shows thumbnails without problems.

Windows 11 Home, XYplorer 24.70

Anything else I can try?

The webp images are created with Affinity Photo 2, static images.
I wanted to finally switch to webp from jpgs - half the size and better quality, nice :-)
Everything works like I said, but I get no thumbnails.

Have you tried a webp file other than those created with Affinity Photo 2. I have thumbnails for webp files with the settings you mention above (i.e., webp listed and checked under Image files and Preview as thumbnail in Previewed Formats). Of course, rebuild your thumbnail cache again. I was going to try your backyard5 webp file linked above but I receive a suspicious website message, so I didn't.

I am not the original op, so that image you mention is not from me.
But the screenshot above is also created in Affinity Photo 2 and WebP, so you could try that.

I honestly don't see why the file should be the problem, since everything else works with it - thumbnails in windows explorer, mouse over preview in XYplorer, mouse down blowup in XYplorer. I don't get why the thumbnail should be different from those functions. Webbrowsers show the images too...
I tried a WebP created in XNview and that also does not show a thumbnail.
I can only assume it's some kind of bug or configuration mishap, but have no idea what else to try...

@ThomasHelzle simply install the codec for system to be able to create thumbnails. This format is still not in pool of system default files.

Select a WEBP file, then run this line through the XY address bar:

After some seconds you should see a text box. Post the contents.

I have no problems with webp files.
Preview and thumbnails are working fine

It happens on every webp file I have ever downloaded as well (like the above), so I don't think it's related to Affinity Photo 2. My own files generate the same output.

Is there some general advice/overview on how to set up previews and thumbnails etc.? It works for most things (I have the K-Lite Codec Pack installed as well as the FastPictureViewer package) but EXR files don't show up either although they preview fine and are ticked in preferences. I didn't find much in the docs.

What doesn't work at all here is any kind of video format like MP4 - I thought the K-Lite Codec Pack was supposed to take care of those? They don't even preview.

It didn't bother me too much in the past, but now I'm working more with these formats once again and it would be helpful to have them working.

P.S. also strange: When I ran the previewcheck; command, the preview pane opened and was showing an error. But when I normally select the webp file, the preview pane shows the preview without issue...
