More:
I found the "fresh;" command in the FAQ and thought I try that.
Now webp files still show no thumbnails in the fresh instance, but suddenly I get previews for .afphoto files, which never worked before!
And .exr works in the fresh instance too!
WTF?

Now I'm even more confused...

Thank you very much. Although I cannot explain it (let alone reproduce it), I will try a blind fix in the next beta.

Don't worry about previewcheck, it's just meant for debugging and it does a great job at that.

If you run previewcheck again on those files in the fresh version and compare the results to the other previewcheck results, you should see the crucial differences immediately.

Ok, the difference seems to be "ThumbsShell = 1" vs. "ThumbsShell = 0"

Changing that in the config file did the trick for .afphoto and .exr.

HA! And after clearing the cache once more I now also get thumbs on WEBP!!!!!!!

How did that setting get changed? I never did anything in the config file before...
It's not in the Configuration Dialog, is it? At least a search didn't find it.

No preview or thumbs for Video files though...
Any ideas on that?

Do I need to install something other than the K-Lite Codec Pack?

Cool, then I can remove my special WEBP fix.

Which video formats?

;)

As for Video Formats:
Have to investigate further what the differences may be.
.mov videos from my Fuji X-T3 - all H264 encoded and 4k, some show, some don't.
.mp4 - some show, some don't

I know too little about how this preview and thumbnail stuff works in XYplorer to have a clear picture of what I'm looking for.

For instance, the .mov that works shows the same with previewcheck; as the one that doesn't, but one works and one fails.
Are there any other codecs or things I have to install other than K-Lite Codec Pack Mega?

With the Media Info tool, I get this from the first file that does not work:

Same camera, same settings...
Weird - and it's the same in Windows Explorer, so it's not just related to XYplorer, just thought you may have an idea where to look.

Thanks everybody for the help!!! :appl:
I guess these video issues are now something that may be outside the scope of XYplorer.
Now that I have at least some stuff working, I can do better debugging, since I no longer deal with several issues at once. :appl:

Cheers!!!!!

Might be. There is a chance that the thumbnail providers only work in a 64-bit process.
You can try to add those extensions here and see if it makes a difference:

Code: Select all

extlist("thumbs64");

Sounds like the preview / thumbnail handler itself fails (Windows Explorer shows the same problem and that's already a 64-bit process)...
One of my scripts helped you out? Please donate via Paypal

Yeah, I fear that's the case.
Adding them to extlist("thumbs64"); didn't help - "can't decode" in all modes and in Windows Explorer as well, so my current guess is, that a recent firmware update of the Fuji X-T3 camera somehow fucked up something. They now allow larger file sizes for video, maybe that is setting some flags that confuse the handler.
Hopefully some later update to the codec pack can fix that.

But anyway, I don't want to bother you any further - you helped me fix the primary problem with webm, exr and more, so I'm all good. :appl: :D

Big THANKS!!!! :-)

Cheers,

Tom

This (error on file select) happens to me if and only if I have installed a third party codec to render previews and thumbnails for UHD video. Shark007, icaros, K-Lite all do this. Not every file, either.

It happens under XYPlorer (previews enabled) with some cbz files (using CDisplayEX as the cbz preview handler). Does not happen when XYPlorer preview pane is off. Does not happen with the same files in Win 10 Explorer with preview plane ON.

And now I did a clean re-install of the latest K-Like Codec Pack Mega and I have thumbs and previews on all videos again after a cache clean.
Previews work as well.

Hallelujah!!!! :-)

So if it was Firmware related on the X-T3, they seem to have already fixed it.
I only did the fast update ever before, and that may also have been the issue.

Fantastic, thank you all so much!

Hello, I met the problem some days ago and was quite puzzled as it worked previously. Image preview is activated with webp format added. Reading this thread, I solved the problem with

ThumbsShell = 1

But why did it work before ? Mystery.

Might have been in the Windows thumbs cache.

OK. Is it normal the setting is not to 1 by default ?
