Impossible to disable auto-refresh

Hello,

How can I totally disable auto-refresh in file list?

If I create a new folder named "aaa" and hit Ctrl+C and Ctrl+V, the new folder gets the name "aaa - Copy" and the file list gets immediately sorted alphabetically.

I have:
Auto-refresh on file system changes: OFF

Hi again,
Uncheck "Resort list immediately after rename" from menu Tools>Configuration>General.

Hi,

I confirm that happens the same with beta version 7.10.0036 on Windows Vista Home Premium

All the refresh/resort options disabled.

Oh sorry, I read your post hastily. You are right, XYplorer immediately sorts the folder after copy & paste. And thats because folders have to remain above files, you can prevent this by unchecking "sort folders apart" from configuration>General.

That way you suggest all the folders and files are mixed and sorted alphabetically.

I am looking for the standard windows xp behavior i.e. you duplicate a folder and it's placed without any sort or refresh in the last position of the file list.

Hmmm as of now i guess its not possible. Seems like there is no way to stop refresh after copy & paste operation and agree that this is different from WE and surprising (even annoying) for new comers. Sorry cant help there.
But until Don (admin) comments on this you can use ctrl+space or ctrl+double click to locate focused item.

I just see a bit of confusion about all those auto-refresh and resort configuration options.

The way I see it, all those "Sort folders apart", "Resort list immediately", "Auto-refresh on filesystem changes" could be integrated on something like this:

Auto-refresh: checks for all (including rename) filesystem changes and adds new files/folders to file list

Sub-option "Resort immediately": places the new files/folders alphabetically where they should be in the list

Probably to simplistic though ...

Yes, I suspect so...

Because, as I recall it, a user may wish to have folders/files sorted apart totally independantly of any other settings...

And the other two options are also somewhat separate as auto-refresh is affected by system changes (in other tasks, etc) while resort list is more limited to changes made directly by user of XY...right?

So user may want to have things auto-refreshed but not resorted, and thus having three options allows many more combinations than if they were linked.

BTW, I'll also extend a welcome to XY forums and as you've seen, we're quite speedy in our replies!

And, I do agree that there could well be a need for another setting/option to make it act more like WE.

That's exactly what I am looking for and cannot get it: things auto-refreshened (to see what's happening on the filesystem) but not resorted (I am in control of my laptop and don't want to see things moving around by themselves ;)

Thank you for your prompt reply!
I see that the nice experience with XYplorer extends to user interaction and support :)

:D Yes, that's one thing that we really try to do here is help out new (and existing) users in a timely manner! I've found that giving a fast reply (even sometimes when we didn't have the correct or final answer) has helped sales of XY and makes the product better than competing ones.

It was that quick turn-around of reporting a bug that originally sold me on XY...and you can see by nbr of posts what happened since! I got really addicted!

I see your point, but the current state of affairs has technical reasons: what you want (aka "Lazy sort") would only be possible if I knew the name of the newly created file. In your example however, that name is auto-coined by Windows (Copy of...) -- and up to now I did not find a way to get Window to tell me the name of the new file before it is created.

BTW, I tested a couple of other file managers and none does what you want. It's only Explorer... or?

Hello,

I've checked xplorer2 and if you disable "Automatically resort after moving/copying" it behaves like Windows XP explorer, i.e. it places new files/folders last in the file list.

Okay, I see. I would do it if I knew how... :)

Hi, just wanted to add myself on the list of people who'd like this a lot !
Maybe you could kindly ask the author of Xplorer2 ? Or am I optimistic ? :D

 Kinda like Bill Gates asking Steve Jobs to tell future plans or secrets of Apple...I don't see how asking your direct competition is going to work, unfortunately!
