Startup very slow

Post by bitbauer »

Me and my colleague are using Xyplorer very often. But there are some things that bother both of us:
  • Startup: It is very slow at startup (~60 seconds freeze). I think it has something to do with our extensive use of network shares. I would suggest to add a startup measurement and when it's slow the program should automatically suggest to adjust the appropriate program settings. I couldn't even figure out which setttings could lead to a faster startup. I enabled "kein Netzwerkbrowsen beim Start" and many more settings but startup is still slow.
I also configured to start as tray icon at first but that does not lead to load the program faster when I click on the icon, even when there has been already a hour since Windows startup. It only begins to load the program interface when I click the tray icon for the first time.
Perhaps the whole startup process should run in a background thread and while it hasn't finished there should be a spinning placeholder icon or something similar.
  • My "library" pane has about 10 categories with approx 10 items each (folders and batch files). It occurs (even when the interface and everything has finished loading) that when I just hover (no clicking) over some items the interface freezes for up to 30 seconds or longer. Even though a function to display additional item info on hover is a great feature there should be a timeout for that or, even better, the whole thing should run in a background thread.
We love to use Xyplorer and haven't yet explored all its capabilities. But sometimes the above mentioned "bugs" make it hard to use...Perhaps you could fix that or give us help to avoid this behaviour.

Thanks a lot in advance and looking forward to your answer!

After a slow start, run this from the address bar to find out the cause:

Code: Select all

text <get loadtimes>, 800, 680;

45 seconds?? It says 588 ms. :) So your problem is before executing XY code. Did you already exclude XY from anti virus?

But during startup I can see this Window:
2022-11-14 14_03_18-C__Windows - XYplorer 23.70.0300 (Keine Rückmeldung).png

I will ask our admin to disable anti virus for a test.

Hmm, this seems impossible. The translation has been done (see menu bar), and it's done after Start Load, so the 45 seconds should be counted. :?

As you can see it is obviously not impossible... :) What could it be? Are there any logs to view?

The only explanation: This freeze happens *after* "Load Done". But I cannot explain it. Never seen sth like this.

Then disable the checking for existence of subfolders in the tree?

I tried saving the settings from one computer which is blazing fast startup, and brought them over to my slower machine...these are the startup times from faster machine:

XY ver: XYplorer 24.40.0000 - Lifetime License Enterprise

why are some of the items different....ie: load mini tree, list 1 browse, layout bars, layout list, layout list

PS....on the best performance so far, I get the following:

XY ver: XYplorer 24.40.0000 - Lifetime License Enterprise
OS: Windows 10 Pro, 64-bit, Version 22H2, Build 19045.2846 (10.0)
Loaded: 2023-05-02 06:40:03 in 3,529 ms

223 ms: 13 ms - Init Language
236 ms: 42 ms - Load Language
287 ms: 30 ms - Init Controls
317 ms: 114 ms - Init Graphics
431 ms: 31 ms - Init Tabs
462 ms: 66 ms - Create Info Panel
528 ms: 83 ms - Set Interface Font
611 ms: 27 ms - Init Panes
657 ms: 25 ms - Load Mini Tree 3, Mode=0
705 ms: 10 ms - Layout Bars
715 ms: 16 ms - Layout List
734 ms: 65 ms - --- Show Window ---
799 ms: 30 ms - Layout List
829 ms: 2,697 ms - Layout Status Bar
3,529 ms: - Load Done

MiniTree: Rows=10, Nodes=20, Expanded=2, Mapped Drives=8
Icon Overlays (List, Tree, Network): Yes, No, No
Network on Startup: Browse=Yes, Reconnect=No, CacheServers=Yes
Pane 1: Items=34/196, Network, Pane 2: Items=4/8, Catalog: Items=1
Tagged Items in Database: 0

However, it actually takes 17.36 seconds before I can do anything in the program. So, the load done time doesn't seem to represent actual function.

On the contrary, there is no delay on windows explorer.

Do you have any other tips to resolve?

Your status bar load time, even the last one you posted, are awful high. What do you have in Configuration for Templates > Status Bar? Disable it temporarily by copying and then removing any template or uncheck "Use status bar template".
