NEtwork not available - XY hangs for several minutes

Hi,
The headline says everything.
I've read sth about comparable problems, it was here:
http://www.xyplorer.com/xyfc/viewtopic.php?t=1637
But anyhow, I have V 6.60.0030 currently running, and when a computer \\blah\ is not available on a tab, I would like to have an option to press Esc and XY stopps searching for that connection for several minutes and hanging all the time..
Anything?
Regards, ReviewPilot

I should add that the time you are reporting is exceptionally long. Actually I'm getting lots of reviews and user feedback about how fast XY's network functions are! No idea why it takes so long at your side.

maybe because there's a lot of network stuff in our company and explorer tries to resolve sth - and only when it's (windows?) is finished with that it signals there's no connection..?

I just had that problem again with the 7.10.0035 beta version.
One server was off, and when I tried to access the corresponding Tab, it took several minutes, and whole XY did not respond, I had to quit via TaskManager..

Are you using this tweak?
Code: Select all
+ Now you can tweak whether servers (computers) are checked for
existence before browsing to a network location. The default is YES,
check them. But in some rare configurations the checks are not
reliable (servers that do exist are not seen), so if YOU know the
servers do exist, you don't need the check and can turn it off.
In the INI you'll find a new key:
[Settings]
AssumeServersExist=0
Set it to 1 to skip the checking.
Either way, it might be worth to try whether it makes a difference.

ok I have set it. I had not such an entry in my ini file (why?), but have added it..
After restarting XY, the entry was deleted from the ini..
tweak seems not to be a feature of this beta..
??

Whoops, it's not a tweak anymore but an "official setting" since v6.80.0099 - 2008-03-06 12:57:
Code: Select all
+ Configuration | Advanced: Added option "Assume that servers
exist". If enabled then the check for existence is skipped,
with two possible effects:
(1) It might speed up browsing and start up.
(2) In some rare configurations the checks are not reliable
(servers that do exist are not seen), so if YOU know the
servers do exist, you don't need the check and can turn it
off.
The factory default is ON (skip the check).
Note that this setting has already been available as INI tweak
since v6.30.0044 - 2007-10-03 14:58.

It is on a fresh install. I did write backward code for upgraders because for them unchecked would be what they had all the time before.
Arghh

XY is set to assume servers exist.
I have a server in the networ currently working hard (copying files or so).
When I tried to acces that tab, XY hung several minutes again!
How can that be?

Got Auto-Refresh enabled for network?
