The MDBU for images works fine
but for PDF files the blow up is the same size as shown by the Hover box
while hovering over the icon.

Both are independent. MDBU is full size here always. Might depend on the preview handler though. Mine is PDF-Xchange.

I have the PDF-XChange Editor.

Is that a new problem?

I don't know when it started but it was working fine in sometimes the past.
I tried to set the Microsoft preview handler as user defined one in XY.
Preview works fine but Hovering or MDBU doesn't work at all in this case
only text from the PDFs are shown.

Might have to do with an experiment I started in v23.60.0016 - 2022-09-15 13:01. It failed for me as well. I'll undo it in the next beta.

Is it fixed in 0101?

No.
It works only if I have the SumatraPDF previewer installed.
Then all functions work.

Summary:
Preview works with the following handlers installed or set as User-defined handler:
- PDF-XChange Editor
- Microsoft PDF
- SumatraPDF.

The MDBU function only works with SumatraPDF.

I can live with this

Here it works perfectly with PDF-XChange Editor ever since. shrug

After more tests I found that PDF-XChange Editor also works with MDBU.
It looks like there are some PDFs which are only displayed in a small size
while its preview still fills the preview pane.

Aha. Anyway, this thread lead to the end of a failed experiment, which is a good thing.
