status bar improvements

Hello,
I found the info panel a little bit confusing
now it report:
folder info | folder info2 | drive info
but what about this:
drive info | folder info | file info
where
drive info => Gb used / Gb free (% free)
folder info => num items / items size / full folder size (with subdir)
file info => num selected items / size selected items / focused file info
and what about different colors or font settings to well recognize it at first sight ?
example
C: 39Gb used 56Gb free (59%) | folder: 6 items (4.7Mb) full: 14.6Mb | 1 selected (2.1Mb) test.dat 01/02/2008
thank you

You mean the Status Bar.
I never found it confusing. But let's hear the others...

Well, I don't think it's confusing and it's quite good the way it is.
On the other hand, SpeedCommander 12 now has a configurable Status Bar and it's really a great feature.
So it may be no top priority feature and Don already has so many things on his list, but I think I would like it (however, configurable fonts and colors are overkill in my opinion).

Confusing/ Nope, I've never had a problem with it but...now that you say it, I could see ability to have different colors for the three sections, though I think other fonts wouldn't easily be possible, due to layout implications...and an option to select order in which sections appear might also be nice for some, but it's not a critical thing.

I don't find it confusing either, actually I think it's pretty well done in fact. Using colors would be a bad idea I think, especially because there's already a change of color done under some circumstances (VF applied)
The only thing that bugs me is when the <curitem> isn't "correctly" updated, cause in scripts it can be annoying (but <numselected> and other variables should fix that), and sometimes it means you need to select/unselect a file to get the third pane to be updated, but that's all.

Well, sorry for my english, "confusing" was not the right word,
I'm only suggesting a more consistent way to show different type of info on the status bar.
For example, when a tree item is selected, the status bar shows:
folder items (free space on drive) | folder info | drive info
in this case the 'free space' info is redundant with the 'drive info'
Also the semantic of the first section is not clear, because we have a folder info (num items) and a drive info that don't seems to be related each other.
Why don't collect all folder info in one clear section
example: 2 selected (56kb) of 15 items (156kb)
And more, when a file is selected the status bar change and became:
folder items (free space on drive) | folder info | file info
so the drive info completely disappear.
about 'font settings':
I mean simply using bold to enhance numeric values
about colors:
they should be customizable (at least by editing XYplorer.ini) so people that don't like colors just continue to use default settings
By the way, all of this are just embellishments, so this isn't a critical task but there is no new feature to implement here.

Maybe you see it as redundant, but on my system, I see it as somewhat different ways of showing this data, as the "free space on drive" is currently "3.57 GB free" while the drive info shows it as "3,657.64 MB free" plus a percentage which the first section doesn't....yes, GB vs MB isn't that big a deal, but having it both ways helps me depending on what I'm attempting to do.

Now that you mention it, I have to admit that I frequently wish I could configure the status bar to display info in a different manner.
Just as, when incorporating dates into file/folder names, it makes sense to do it in the form of YYYY-MM-DD - I expect the status bar to also move from the larger to smaller details as I read left to right.
Add to that, the fact that I have two different numbers for the amount of free space, and they're on opposite sides of the bar...
I would love a way to fully customize the status bar (perhaps with a simple text template, using variables).
But I would settle for the ability to rearrange the status bar by dragging the sections (in the same way columns can be rearranged), as well as the ability to drag the seperators so that I could have them spaced out however I wished.

Last time this was discussed Don liked the idea of making it customizable via variables/templates.

That sounds perfect. As long as the dividers were adjustable, that would be ideal.
