I am still touring around with XYplorer.

What is the advantage of highlighting and block coloring?
When shall I opt for one of them?

And, what is their contribution if we also can use lists/catalogs?

Thank you for your input.

The advantage is that you the user can decide if you want to use them or not. It all depends on individual needs and work practices. the great thing about XY is that it caters for different user needs and does not 'force' you down a single route.

So, it's up to you to identify the advantage - right now as a new user the need may not be apparent but at some time in the future you may just be very happy to have a product like XY that gives you choice.

For me the Boxed Branch comes in handy to distinguish between drives in the tree. I have several drives and mapped drives. Sometimes when I'm drilled down deep it can be hard to tell which drive I'm in so I make each one a different color. Also under my source code folder I make each application's folder a different color...for me it makes it a little easier to tell them apart as their names are similar.
