Search for contents in header/footer only

I would like to have a function that allows searching within 8 to 16 kilobytes at the start and end of files when I tick a checkbox. I want to be able to search through headers and metadata, quickly, and without generating false positives. Even if the program doesn't know anything about the structure of the data, which it cannot because too many file formats exist, the simple selection of range would allow to focus on relevant parts that identify the data type or contain human readable text.
