Win10, 22.70.0000, thumbnail displays "Can't Decode"

Win10, 22.70.0014, thumbnail displays generic icon for PDF files

Win10, 22.60.0200 (from freezer), PDF thumbnail displays correctly.

For me "Can't Decode" was produced using a defekt beta SumatraPDF thumbnail provider.
Installing an older version fixed the problem.

I appreciate your input, but I am using PDF-Xchange which has worked forever regardless of the version.

Cannot reproduce but it might be connected with the recent issue concerning video thumbnails which will be fixed in the beta. So it might be fixed as well. Let me know.

I still get generic PDF thumbnails with 20.70.0016. If the thumbnail database file was created by 22.60.0200, 20.70.0016 will display the thumbnails correctly. However, Shift-T to recreate thumbnails reverts all to the generic thumbnail. Without Shift-T, any new files added will display the generic thumbnail.

Update: In the vein of try anything, I added the pdf extension to "Category: Preview as Thumbnail" and now PDF thumbnails are displayed/created. The pdf extension has always been in "Category: Office Files" (and I left it there as well.)

The "Preview as Thumbnail" shouldn't have anything to do with this. But you are right, it currently does. I will fix that.

Concerning your issue: This should be ticked to show PDF thumbnails: Configuration | Preview | Thumbnails | Show thumbnails for non-images

Update: Installed 20.70.0017 and PDF thumbnails revert to generic icon.

What happens when you add PDF to "Preview as Thumbnail" and preview a PDF?

I had not removed PDF from "Preview as Thumbnail". 20.70.0017 displays generic PDF thumbnail. 20.70.0016 displays PDF thumbnail. As a note, the "Preview" PDF entry is displayed in blueish font while the other entries are in white. Because I added the PDF?

I have a similar problem which also happens on fresh instance.
Some PDFs are showing a generic icon and some the correct thumbnails.
Depemding on thumbnail size the number differs.
There is nothing special with this PDFs, they show correct thumbnails in Explorer and Total Commander.

but only in the small size #1
