POM works with focused item...

As said, right-now there needs to be a selection in order to trigger the POM, but the PFA listed are based on the focused item.
Shouldn't that be changed to all selected items, or at least the current (selected+focused) one (and if none, use the first in selection) ?

I guess yes: first selected if no current. Good.

Seeing this, a new user might go "Huh?

"....so maybe we should have a page on wiki (if there isn't one already, as I couldn't find one) that just lists these various abbreviations that we commonly use here on forum and their definition via links to pages that describe it...suggested page title would be something like "Common abbreviations" and I'd then put a link to it within the "hot" section of left frame...
This would include even the simple things like IP, CKS, etc., because as we start using these 'codes' more often, it makes it hard for some users to keep track of what is being discussed, IMO.
