Never say never.
Let's say you could browse an archive like a folder, what would you like to do next? I assume you want more than just look. And that's where it gets tricky...

What's tricky about it?
I did it 20+ years ago and I didn't find anything tricky about it.
Other file managers don't seem to have any problem so why is it so difficult for you?
Let's have a detailed, and good, explanation as to why it is so "tricky".

When you are stupid and lazy everything is tricky.

There's nothing "tricky" about programing - it's pure logic and any "tricks" will only result in unstable code.
A little Limerick for you:
A young man named Donald Lessau
Wrote a program, I don't know how
It was written in BASIC
Using many a trick
So a few people can't run it now.

OK, by "tricky" I meant it will probably end up in me wasting my time on something that countless special archiving apps already can do. Maybe I should have used "not interesting" instead. Or "no fun".
Speaking of fun, the next feature I'm really looking forward to is replacing all those ugly and limited Windows scrollbars by my own beautiful and unlimited scrollbars. When the bars are closed we should at least have access to cool scrollbars.

Now that is what I would regard as unnecessary effort serving no purpose. The scroll bar is a functional device and the standard Windows one does the job. The only possible function I miss sometimes, in a text editor, is "go to line number" on the right click menu of the scroll bar.
A text editor I use has it's own "clever" scroll bar - it doesn't work and they have made repeated attempts to fix it. Still faulty, does not reliably show the correct position in the document.
If it's cosmetic you're after, how about psychedelic patterns?

"Smells Like Masochist Spirit" playing in background for few people.

A poor old person called Eil
Controlled by a spirit most vile
Although some did insist
that he was a masochist
Most ignored him and gave a wry smile.
