I am seeing this error in a pop up window quite regularly. It seems to occur when I have a PDF file selected, I switch to another window for a while, then back to XYplorer.

Is that PDF file previewed in the Preview tab (or Preview Pane) at that point?

I have the Preview Pane hidden (Window > Show Preview Pane is disabled), so no preview is displayed.

Updating to 21.70 would be a good start, so we know if it is still present in the current release.

I have updated. However, since the issue is intermittent, it may take some time for it to occur.

If I see it again, I will post it here.

1) Please use beta v21.70.0003 or later for testing. I added better error messaging.
2) If it happens again please send a screenshot of the whole XYplorer window.

Just letting you know this error happened again... and I realised I have v21.70.0000 installed, not the beta v21.70.0003 as you requested.

I have installed the correct beta version this time and will wait for it to happen again.

I just got the error again with the beta version.

1) What exact action did you do right before this? (Where did you click, or which key did you press?)

2) Whatever you did, it does not cause the error every time you do it, right? Only about 10% of the times? Or less?

3) It only happens when a PDF is selected?

4) Does it only happen in the Dropbox path and with icon overlays enabled (Configuration | General | Refresh, Icons, History | Icons | Show icon overlays)?

1) I usually switch to another window, and then switch back to XYplorer and notice the error. I cannot tell if the error pops up at the point I switch back to XYplorer, or if it appeared while XYplorer was in the background. I have never seen it pop up while XYplorer was the active window. The most recent time it happened I had the PDF open in Acrobat Reader, then switched back to XYplorer and saw the error there. I don't think I had Acrobat Reader open every time the error occured, though I am not 100% sure.

2) It occurs rarely, sometimes a few times per day, sometimes nothing for a week. Probably less than 10% of the time. I have tried clicking on PDFs, switching between windows, and opening / closing PDFs. I have not managed to reproduce it on demand.

3) Yes, this is the one thing I have noticed every time it happened (maybe 10 occurrences so far). Every single time it happened, a PDF file was selected in XYplorer.

4) I can confirm I have icon overlays enabled, and I am pretty sure all the PDFs were in Dropbox. 99% of the PDFs I deal with are in Dropbox, and it is unusual for me to access PDFs elsewhere.

If there is anything else you want me to try, let me know.

Could you please turn off Configuration | General | Refresh, Icons, History | Icons | Show icon overlays and see if you can still get the error then?

Okay, I have turned off Show icon overlays. I'll post here as soon as I see the error again.

I just had the error happen again with Show icon overlays disabled.

Fascinating, thanks.

Is your mouse pointer over one of the filenames at that moment? (= maybe triggering a hover box or file info tip)

Very unlikely – it is usually when I switch back to XYplorer (either by clicking on the XYplorer window or by pressing ALT+TAB) that I see the error window.

I have the hover box option disabled, and I didn't even know about the file info tip until just now. I always click on the file name, not the file icon.
