I suspect this would affect other existing users enough so that it'd have to be done via custom settings, such as 'tweak'...I only use it rarely so for me it's not a big deal either way....

I agree wiht j_c.
If it's implemented, it should be via custom settings.
I've always used the up button in explorer.
And now I'm so used to the 'Dbl-click on empty space goes up' behaviour in XY that I sometimes try to use it in explorer, without success so far.

I would disagree here. This sounds like it could be a nice option, but if it was to be added I think it'd be much better to do like for dbl-click on Tab and show a list of available actions on dbl-click, and let the user choose.

Maybe I shall remind you: option read "Dbl-click on empty space goes up", but when disabled it doesn't do nothing, it put the focused item into view. So adding a tweak would lead people to question when does it actually work, and when the option set on Config work, and it could be confusing. A list of all (three, or four with "Nothing") options would be better I think.

I wouldn't use this, but I suppose some might, like anyone stuck using a mouse or laptop without a dedicated back button. :P

EDIT: I misread jacky's post.. opps. But I agree doing it like the Tabs option would be best.

A bit off-topic: Something that would really make both of these features truly amazing is if one of the options was Execute script.

The possibilities for the end user would become endless: I'd love to double click a tab and have it Set the Home zone, lock to home, and iconify at once, or someone could have a menu of selections.
Plus, it would eliminate, or at least lessen, the whole requesting and coding for getting new options there.

Yeah, that's a pretty cool idea, to allow one to define a script file to be loaded on actions such as dbl-click on Tab, dbl-click on empty space on List, on Tree, on a middle-click on List, on Tree.
Right now middle-clicks are treated as regular/left-clicks, I would love to have me some scripted menus pop-up there ! :D

hhmmmm.....

Yeah, why not ? And I'm actually getting pretty excited about the middle-click-load-script-file thing ! 8)

And where would you enter that script? Into some edit box in config dialog probably...?

I think that's the idea. If the user picks Execute Script a text field would be enabled to input the script. Or you could have a disabled button that's enabled and opens a dialog similar to Try() I suppose.

Yes, exactly. A textbox where one could specify - using relative syntax of course, as with command load or UDCs - the script file to load.

How about a script menu appearing dependent on the area clicked. The script menu relating to a file of user ready made scripts and one item on the menu could be for a enter now script.

Just remember that some of us laptop/touchpad folks don't have any real way to do a middle-click so having the script option definable to user specified click would be better than just middle.

Well, it would be an option, you don't have to use it even if you can. Just because some don't have middle-click doesn't mean it can't be used. Some might not have a mouse at all and only use a keyboard, doesn't mean there shouldn't be support for click, right-click, dbl-click, Ctrl+click, Shift+clic, etc ;)

I'm just saying, we're talking about adding options to dbl-click on different areas and middle-click on different areas, not adding specific features that could only be used that way. (eg: keyboard users do have CKS already to load a script file)
