Is there a way to do this? Switching automatically to thumbnail view if folder has more images than non-images files?

No, only by using a script which would need to be executed with a click on a button / catalog entry, etc. or a keyboard shortcut...

Automatically switch to Thumbnail when folder has more images than non-images files.
