is there a way to prevent a whole bunch of xy instances open

during a day, i can go to Task Manager and see five or six XY icons . Then i manually close most of them. I keep a couple because clicking on them is fastest way to open XY for me.

You want multiple instances but just not too many of them?

Then switch off "Configuration/Startup & Exit/Allow multiple instances".
As easy as that.
