preview not available

Recently I was unable to use XYplorer in Vista and on advice from the Author I installed the latest version 6.80.
Now although the program is working the preview of video files is not - I can preview picture files but not video.
Is there some hidden configuration that I have to activate to use the preview feature?
I found this feature so useful in previous versions.
Thanks and appreciation for any answers.

Welcome to the XY forums!
And...Can you be more specific in exactly what video types are causing you issues? Since I've found recently that there are literally hundreds of combinations of data and types...
Also, I'd suggest using this simple application (Gspot) to help determine what your video files consist of and what possible codecs are missing, which may relate to this...BTW, I've used Gspot for quite a while...

Hi and Welcome to XY forums,
Apart from what JC said also remember that XY can preview any format that is playable by windows media player. Most likely you might be missing some codecs. And like JC mentioned I too recommend checking any broken or missing codecs with Gspot.

Thanks for your suggestions but..............
All types of video files are not previewing mpg avi wmv etc but ARE playable in Windows player.
I have downloaded and installed the K-lite megapack but this hasn't made any difference.
I also downloaded the Gspot program you suggested but as yet I am still struggling through the vast amount of information this gives :-)
Regards

If you have K-lite codec pack installed then normally XY can preview all media files. Maybe you can try one more thing. Go to Start> Programs>K-lite codec pack>Tools>Codec tweak tool and here you will find some check boxes to detect broken codecs and some check boxes to enable codecs. Try doing that and restart PC before you try previewing in XY again.
Hope that helps, not sure why it doesnt work for you.
btw, what is your OS? because this works on all XP machines i have worked with.

Thanks again for your suggestions -
I have tried all those and still no preview - you asked about my OS here are details generated by the K-Lite program tools.
KLCP: mega 365
OS: Windows Vista (TM) Home Premium (6.00.6000)
DirectX: 9.0c
CPU name: AMD Athlon(tm) 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 4200+
CPU speed: 2210MHz
Memory: 768MB
Screen size: 1024x768 (32bits)
Video card: NVIDIA GeForce 6100 nForce 405, 256MB
although you mentioned that XY works on your XP system I did download and install 6.80 which is supposed to be compatible with Vista.
I too was well pleased with it under XP and that is why I purchased a registration key. Now of course I am a little disappointed.
Maybe I will have to search further a field for an alternative answer or program. Thanks again to all for trying to help - it is hard to believe that no one else has experienced the same problem.

When you say " still no preview " -- what do you get instead? Some error, message, anything??

Just curious...are you able to successfully preview audio files? Like MP3, WAV, etc? Do you get the audio of a video but just no picture? Or??

Hi again--
Yes I am able to preview (hear) audio files and also the audio of movie files.
The information that appears in the preview panel consists of:
on the right hand side - information about the type of file
eg windows media audio/video file.
The lenght of the file
and there is a count down of the size.
The left side of course is blank. There are no error messages
I have un-installed and re-installed various other versions - I tried a stand a lone approach also - re booting after each try............

It's my impression that the "link" to the WMP component is very fragile. I have other applications that use that componet. Recently, it came to a point where in some (not all) applications, the WMP component didn't work any more. After clean-installing the OS, all of them work now. Who knows what I have done since the last OS install

Hmm, weird. Never heard about this before.

Do you use any unusual display settings on your system (e.g. larger than normal), or did you change anything concerning the hardware acceleration of video rendering, or do you have a very unusual graphic card? The general question is: what could distinguish your system from all others?

Welllllllllllllllll I still haven't solved this problem but......
After numerous installs and uninstalls and registry cleaning etc. I have to say that the only thing that seems to be a problem is the licence code.
When I install - whatever - version the preview feature is available but after a time the licence code appears and it is no longer an evaluation program.
I did purchase this licence and I guess it is somewhere in the PC but I don't seem to be able to install an evaluation program purely as an evaluation program.
Is it possible that new registration code would solve the problem?

What license did you buy, Lifetime or Standard?
Frankly, I start to wonder whether you are talking about XYplorer or maybe another program... (yep, it has happened before to another user).

mmmmmmmmmmm well I may be a newbie but I do know just what prgram I am using - not a very pleasant reply if I may say.
It was a standard licence purchased on 2007-10-14 through PayPal
XY dentity-8ba6845ff4b3
valid for all versions below v7.40

Sorry, blame it on the carnival!

Believe me, I've seen it happen before.
Generally, entering the license once should be enough. The registry has nothing to do with it since XYplorer is not "installed" and does not use the registry at all.
How long (how many days) can you run the app before the license appears to expire?
