visual filter setting

I can't tell you how much XY is increasing my work flow, it is truly amazing!

In my current project I have to constantly reset the visual filter setting. When you change settings the window gives a drop down to select the new extension or enter a new one.

It would be much better if it displayed a list (say first 5) extensions available so that you can select immediately (if listed) without having to press the drop down arrow.

Are you a mouse user? I could add the last VFs to the TB button's context menu.

Yes - I am designing a new machine in AutoCad and most things are done by mouse so XY also
If I can reduced the steps - speeds up the boring bit!

It's only a MRU list but I like it.

Ok, I'm thinking this is related to this so I'm posting here, but I'm not actually 100% sure this is linked. Anyways...

Something that annoys me right now is that using the MRU for VF, the filter used during toggle No/Last VF isn't actually the last one used, not if it came from the MRU.
Example:

- Ctrl+J: enter a VF, it has to be one NOT on your MRU, say "foobar"
- Ctrl+Shift+J toggles as expected
- Now Ctrl+J and select a filter from MRU, then press Enter, or use the MRU on the ctxt menu of the TB button
- Ctrl+Shift+J now toggles using the first filter (foobar) and not the last one used !!

That can be confusing/surprising at first, then it gets annoying. Especially when you can't put a previously used VF as last one used to toggle with it, not by using it at least, you need to go in LM manually...

I've not run into this situation, but I do see jacky's point...in that, "Last VF" would seem it should be the last one actually used, no matter how/where it was set/derived from.

I find it rather annoying that the toggling isn't tab specific.

When I need to toggle the VF off and then back on, I want the same VF back not the one I just applied to a different tab.

Just a clarification: Do you mean that you would like each tab to store its own last visual filter? I think that would be great! Since it would be tab-specific information, it could possibly be implemented when we get tab-specific history (one of my most anticipated features for XY).

Indeed, I am.

I'm sure we'll eventually see it, but it bit me again today so I needed to vent.

Yeah, I understand -- I get bitten by the lack of tab-specific history almost every time I use the history buttons (I've gotten spoiled by the tab-specific history in FireFox), so I certainly understand!

Hopefully Don will be able to make time to get these features in the not-too-distant future! (I think he said once that he might be able to get it in 6.8 or 6.9 -- we can hope!)

Regardless, though, it's still a great product!

I did that on purpose: The positions in the MRU list should not be changed by using that list.

Why shouldn't they be changed ? I think they should, that's typical behavior. That's even the definition: Most-Recently Used first!
Besides, the side-effect that prevent a VF to become the last one used gets annoying, without mentioning how the "Toggle No/Last" doesn't work as expected then, since it's not really the last one used, but more like the last new one used that hadn't been used before, or something like that.

Any reasons for you to say the positions on MRU shouldn't be changed ?

Sure: I do all my filtering through this list, and I know at which positions my filters are. A habit thing. I want the list stable.
