Quick access to files and folders

Keeping up to date with all disscussions about this subject (dual panes, catalogs, etc..) I came up with one idea that if it is possible to implement would speed up the access to whatever file or folder.
- The name of every folder or file accessed by the user would be kept and when the user writes any string in the address bar XYPLorer would show all the possible matches. Anyone could be selected and XYPlorer would jump to it.
I only saw that in another file manager.

So exactly how does this differ from what XY does already?
See
http://88.191.26.34/XYwiki/index.php/Ad ... Completion for reference.
And there
really needs to be a limit on how many are stored, as some users visit hundreds of folders that may only exist one/two times and thus don't need to be stored forever, so XY stores up to 64, which should be sufficient for most users...maybe a INI tweak to customize this nbr would be an option that would help some users?
Also, as I know it, the AB is not the ideal way to select a file, but is intended for folders.

There is a slight difference between what XYPlorer does and what I was thinking.
Let me give an example:
you go to the folder "C:\Program Files\abc"
Later if you write in the address bar "abc" you would see this path.
The autocomplete takes effect in XYPlorer if you write from the beginning of the path.

a similiar feature is found in Opera (and possibly in other browsers too): There you can assign a "nickname" to each website in your bookmarks. So if i type "XY" in the address bar it will take me too "
http://www.xyplorer.com/xyfc/index.php".
I love this feature in my webbrowser and i guess i would love it too in XY for folders...

Alias have been mentioned in the past, but I think they may have been a little forgotten as UDC were introduced, since you could then assign a KS to a location.
I still think alias would be nice, cause it might indeed be easier to remember an alias than it is a KS. In fact, I could imagine giving myself aliases to not only location but full UDC, which could be triggerer through AB/Goto. Because calling Goto and typing in "quick-backup", or even "qbkp", might be easier to remember that to do Ctrl+Shift+Alt+B...
Anyways, this wasn't the point here I believe, as jcmn didn't ask for predefined things, but a list XY would generate based on the History. So that when typing something, XY would show a list of maching possibilties, but that unlike the current autocomplete wouldn't need the first part of the path to be fully given.
By the way, I know this isn't quite the same at all, but one feature that's pretty cool in XY is the
Hotlist : it will pop up a list of recent locations you visited (ie it's based on recent History) but making sure that all paths do exists, they'll be sorted alphabetically, with a separator for each drives, and more!
It ends up being quite a nice & new way to go use your history.

Yes that's what I had in mind.

Yes that's what I had in mind.
I added a tweak, key "AutoCompleteMatchAnywhere" (see Change log).
If you like it I might even make it the default. I myself seem to like it...

Hi
Didn't see any tweak in the INI file with that name.
I included it in the INI file but with no results. At least in the address bar it didn't take any effect.

Sorry I didsee it now bu there is something wrong.
If I change it to 1 and reload XY the setting is put back to zero. So it is not possible to use it.

How to use new tweaks:
- run XY
- close XY
- (now the new key is present in the INI)
- open the ini
- find the key
- set it to your liking
- save and close the ini
- run XY

it is not functionning.
The setting is now set to 1 but with no results
For example I have a folder e:\software
After entering it and going out if then in the address bar I write "software" it is not found.
Any other example is the same. For example the know folder Documents and Settings is not found this way.

Of course you have to check config/advanced/drop down lists/auto-complete recently used items.

It was already checked

If you try it in the address bar you also have to uncheck auto-complete path/file names for address bar. Only one auto-complete method at a time is possible.

Done.
Althought it is not evident that you have to uncheck the autocomplete.
