After searching the forum, the Help files and the wiki, I've got a question about Suspend Auto-Refresh.

Although the phrase "without affecting any (Auto-Refresh) settings" is in bold print in the wiki, I think the key feature of suspend refresh is: "The auto-refresh will be reactivated as soon as you change location".

It's key because I don't have to remember to turn AR back on when I move to the next tab or folder - I tend to forget details like that a lot.

Also, I couldn't find any way *to* affect the Auto-Refresh settings other than selecting/deselecting them in the context menu or the Menu bar. Did I miss something?

I think I figured it out. Turning off Auto-Refresh is subtly different than Suspend Auto-Refresh.

Using the View menu to turn off Auto-Refresh also disables it in the Configuration file. You have to manually turn it back on via menu, toolbar button or Configuration setting.

Suspend Auto-Refresh temporarily disables Auto-Refresh, but the Configuration settings aren't changed. Changing location turns Auto-Refresh back on without having to use the menu, a button or the Configuration setting.

But turning Auto-Refresh on/off via the View menu or a toolbar button only checks/unchecks the global AR setting in the Configuration file; it doesn't change the selected/deselected state of the 2 sub-options (in network locations and no refresh during file operations).

So the only real benefit that I can see to Suspend Auto-Refresh is that it is automatically disabled when you change locations. That's why I suggested that the bold print in the wiki should be "The auto-refresh will be reactivated as soon as you change location". I think that is more important than the current bold phrase, "without affecting any (Auto-Refresh) settings"

Does that clarify my earlier comments?

Yes, that's correct. The only idea behind Suspend AR is that it's temporary/auto-reenable.
