Preview and Show Info Panel Toolbar Buttons

Post by Jeff Bellune »

The first time I click the Show Info Panel toolbar button after installing XYplorer, it brings up the panel with the Properties tab selected.

Excellent! That is exactly what I want the Info Panel to show me.

I added a Preview button, which, when clicked, brings up the Info Panel with the Preview tab selected.

Again, excellent!

But...when I click the Show Info Panel button twice again (once to hide it and once to bring it back up), it appears with the Preview tab still selected.

That's bad because it's not what I want the Info Panel to show me when I select it from the toolbar. :(

I would like to be able have a toolbar button that always brings up the Properties tab of the Info Panel.

Whether that's hard-coded or customizable doesn't matter, just as long as it's available.

Thanks,
-Jeff

A valid wish that can be fulfilled.

BTW, by factory default Ctrl+1 does this as well.

Thank you for the Ctrl+1 tip.

The thing I like about the toolbar info panel button is that it is a toggle. The preview toolbar button should also be a toggle.

Actually, any keyboard shortcut or toolbar button that can show the info panel should be a toggle that can hide it as well.

What do you think is more elegant - a separate button for showing the Properties tab or the ability to customize the existing Info Panel toggle button so that it brings up the Info Panel with any desired tab selected?

Good idea! See, you already start thinking the XY-way...

"elegant" -- a keyword in XY design! :) I think: separate. Keeping things flat is always a strong choice in my experience. It's relaxing for the user. Options/Settings mean stress: first you have to decide something, then you have to remember your decision. A nightmare!
