Hi,

First off I love XYplorer when it does work...

I'm running the trial now and I want to unlock it but I'm having a problem that's hard to describe... sometimes (usually after opening a file on a network share, but sometimes when I'm doing nothing w/ it) XYplorer crashes, but gives no useful information about the crash. Is there anything I can get to the developer that would help resolve the problem, or any other useful information I could provide about it (error log, anything)?

Also maybe a stupid question - but if I buy XYplorer does that get me all updates until 7.0?

Hmm, when doing nothing ... question: do you have auto-refresh enabled? If yes, I would suspect a problem with refreshing the list on a network share. Or can you reject this theory right away?

Yes, even better. If you purchase a Standard License, you will get one major version cycle for free (that's currently all versions until, but excluding, v7.40)! If you purchase a Lifetime License, you will get ALL future updates for free!

I do have auto-refresh enabled, but 'In network locations as well' is not checked.

Awesome about the entire version cycle, I think I'll be purchasing it soon, that's a cool way to run it.

Okay, as you might have guessed, this means it's very difficult to debug because my only idea just kicked the bucket.

All I can suggest now is that you try to see a pattern so that I can reproduce the issue. Since you are the only one reporting this issue, a natural direction to look is: what might be special about your system?

Are you using the latest BETA version? If not, do it.

UPDATE: And thanks for buying! So you decided for Lifetime...

I've recently started using sftpdrive - it maps an ssh connection to a network drive, so at first I figured it was probably related to a complication with that... but then it was happening with my other networked drives as well.

I was just trying to reproduce it and was able to by opening a file on one of the shares, here is a screenshot (not sure if this will help at all but it's worth a shot):

I am completely open to this being caused by sftpdrive, so what I'm going to do is close it for a bit and see if I can still get it to happen. I'll post back and let you know.

Yep - even though I've got this small prob right now I still love XY, and the lifetime license is too good of a deal to pass up [/img]

Looks like XY is currently at F:\Home\... looks like a local drive. So Auto-refresh can set in, or is F: a mapped drive?

PS: Please verify that "Suspend Auto-Refresh" (menu View) is automatically checked when you browse anywhere on a mapped drive (with Autorefresh ON + Include Network Locations OFF).

Another potential suspect: Configuration / File Info Tips. Please turn them OFF (first checkbox) and see if you still can crash.

Suspend Auto-Refresh is automatically checked on network drives, I disabled the File Info Tips completely for now. I'll let you know what happens, thanks!

I've been using it all day with sftpdrive and only just now had a crash... Again it was when opening a text document on a network drive. If it keeps up at this rate I would be completely happy, it's been very handy all day without crashing. I'm having a hard time pinpointing what it is I'm doing differently when it does crash but I'll keep trying to keep an eye out.

One special note about the last crash that was different from the others - I also got a 'DrWatson Postmortem Debugger has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.', I'm not sure if that's of any help at all but thought it was worth mentioning.

Also, I have a Catalog that has 19 items, all linked to networked folders... when the drive is connected it takes a few seconds for it to expand, if I disconnect the drive it expands instantly... I'm assuming there is some sort of lookup for each entry that causes the delay, is there a setting for that anywhere?

Update: I also tried closing sftpdrive / leaving that off for a while and it still happened, but I'm still thinking it's network-drive related, I was opening a .psd from a local box and it opened but crashed xyplorer .

So it's always related to opening files? I thought you said it even happened without you doing anything...

Catalog: it's the icons that slow down the Catalog. Currently the Catalog retrieves specific icons (which means, the files are actually accessed for any embedded icons; typical examples are EXE and ICO files), and this can be slow over network. I'm just getting an idea to speed this up a little... When you say "19 items, all linked to networked folders" -- are these LNK files?

Nope, like I drag the folder to the catalog to create the link.

As far as the crashes, usually it's when I open a file... right after the file opens it will crash... the other times I can't really explain, XYplorer doesn't even have focus and it will crash then. For example I had it running while I was playing a game earlier and the game had to exit full screen to get the error box for XYplorer... weird, I know.

I did however install it on my laptop and have no problems with that install so far... I use sftpdrive on that as well.

Okay. You could as well try Configuration | Startup & Exit | Cache Network Servers. This will avoid polling the network, which sometimes takes a little time.
