Let me guess, some Adobe Acrobat .pdf Reader / Editor / whatever...
Install e.g the 32bit version of PDF-X-Change Viewer / Editor or Sumatra PDF and additionally the K-Lite Codec Pack (Basic version is enough).
.mkv and .pdf previews -> Working
