Could the "Natural numeric sort order" be the culprit?

the sort order of these 5 folders is correct if "Natural numeric sort order" is deactivated

but i think it is bad to have a "a10.txt" file sorted above "a2.txt"

The thing is, I'm absolutely unable to recreate what you see in your screenshot.

The sort order for the testdata is always correct...
Try a fresh instance (::fresh; in the address bar)

in the 18.90.0104 vesion which i downloaded 3 minutes ago:

the folder with 0-9 title is still displayed above other 4 folders (in branch view)

I was not talking about a new version, just about starting your current one as fresh...

i typed ::fresh; in the address bar
pressed 'enter'
in a new xyplorer 'fresh' window went to the 'abc.def' folder
activated the 'branch view' mode
0-9 is again at the top

Sorry, unable to reproduce that. The sort order here is just fine -> Can't help with that issue

i'm trying to get used to the "Natural numeric sort order" option disabled
because it solves the sort order issue
at the moment it seems to be a lesser evil than seeing a folders sorted differently in tree and in navigation panel

if i understand correctly, it's not xyplorer's fault
since the problem is present even in a fresh beta-version (without any manual changes in the preferences or the ini-file)

disabling the 'use intuitive filename sorting' option in my windows2003 doesn't help
logically, it should not help but at least i tried to do something in my operating system (outside xyplorer)

it turned out that the "Natural numeric sort order" option has to be enabled. there are important reasons for it

it also turned out that in branch view:
changing the "sort by path (ascending) #329" to the "sort by index (ascending) #319" solved the 'sort order' problem of these 5 folders:
(Compilations)
(Splits)
0-9
A
W-Z
but 'sort by index' is not a great choice too

everything looks good when the 'list' view is active
but when branch view (+ details view) is active, i never see the items sorted equally (in tree and navigation panel)

(in the 'columns #360' i always have the 'name #362' only)

example 1 (18 folders: tree, navigation panel):       views > list       sort by > name ascending
(Compilations)
(Splits)
0-9
A
East-Beat
E-Base
Echo-Bass
Eclipse
E-Con
Eden
E-Go
Emotion
Epic
''Epid
Era
E-Type
Experience
W-Z
this is the desired sort order (it also does not differ at all in the tree and navigation panel)

example 2 (the same 18 folders: navigation panel):       views > details, branch view       sort by > path ascending
0-9
(Compilations)
(Splits)
A
E-Base
E-Con
E-Go
E-Type
East-Beat
Echo-Bass
Eclipse
Eden
Emotion
Epic
''Epid
Era
Experience
W-Z
- this is the unwanted sort order. the folder named 0-9 is sorted wrong which is not acceptable
- the folders E-Base, E-Con, E-Go, E-Type are sorted differently which is bad (but it could be more or less acceptable if they were sorted the same way in the tree too)

example 3 (the same 18 folders: navigation panel):       views > details, branch view       sort by > index ascending
''Epid
(Compilations)
(Splits)
0-9
A
E-Base
E-Con
E-Go
E-Type
East-Beat
Echo-Bass
Eclipse
Eden
Emotion
Epic
Era
Experience
W-Z
- the folder named 0-9 is sorted correctly here but this sort order is not good too. because it has a huge disadvantage: it differs from the sort order in the tree (example 2 has this disadvantage too)
- the folder named ''Epid is sorted wrong
- the folders E-Base, E-Con, E-Go, E-Type are again sorted differently which is bad

is there a way to always have visually equal sort order? (in tree and navigation panel)
(not only when in the list view but also when in branch+details view)

despite some aspects, i'm trying to get used to the "natural numeric sort order" disabled
because at the moment it seems that this way all the 'sort order' problems are absent

there is only 1 exception: the 4 folders (E-Base, E-Con, E-Go, E-Type) are always sorted differently (in tree and navigation panel)

('sort by index' is not an option anymore)

so this is what i have now:       natural numeric sort order > disabled       views > details, branch view       sort by > path ascending

how to make these 4 folders (E-Base, E-Con, E-Go, E-Type) displayed in same order?
(in tree and navigation panel)
(in list view and branch+details view)

I cannot see different orders here (with or without "natural numeric sort order"):

i have the same correct sort order as in your image. but this is the "name (ascending)" sort order

while i speak about the problem with the "path ascending" sort order (which i have to use when in branch+details view)

Yes, "path ascending" sort order is indeed different. This is a complex matter... I'll look into it later...
