This is my configuration, please look at the picture. Why can EXE files and RAR files be previewed? I didn't add "*.vmx" format. Why can I preview it?

I don't need a preview of EXE files and RAR files.

Every file type that is not in one of the predefined standard preview categories will
be previewed if you select / click it. XY just tries to detect if this is a binary or text format
and either display a raw preview (here: your .exe / .rar) or a text preview (your .vmx)

If you don't need a preview why are you clicking on those files when the preview pane is open?

And if you want to disable it at the moment, you could add these filetypes to e.g. the "Text Files"
category in Configuration | Preview | Previewed Formats
and remove their checkmark...

Maybe it makes sense to add a config option to just display a text (instead of a raw preview)
like "File type is not in the list of preview types, disabling preview..."
E.g.: [ ] Disable preview of not configured file types

According to your logic, I need to add EXE and RAR, and remove their checkmark, so that's OK. Where will the EXE be added? Added to "Text Files", it doesn't belong to text, added to "Office Files", it doesn't belong to Office and so on.

There may be many files in the list, including TXT files, BAT files, VMX files, EXE files, RAR files and so on.
When the preview pane is open, sometimes, we accidentally click on EXE or RAR files.

The concept of Office file is very clear to me. The concept of image file is also very clear to me. What is the concept of text file? I'm a little confused.

What does that mean, is that some kind of message you get?

What is the concept of text file? I'm a little confused

Filetypes that just consists of text without using any kind of markup?
