XYplorer Beta Club

The A and Shift+A shortcuts on the TOTD dialog are causing XY to crash for me on XP SP2 and XY 6.40.

All the other shortcuts work there, but when I press A or Shift+A I get the familiar XP dialog: "XYplorer.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close..."

Could not reproduce with XY 6.30.0056.

Yup...happens to me also! Too bad to have a bug like this on a official vers.

Yes, now I can use A and Shift-A. But if I tape A, how can I read the tip I choose ? (I use Vista Home and Firefox), or must I tape Shift-A to be able to read some tipe ?

Also, you say Shift-F1 to open TOD. Here, it doesn't work. I have to use the Help menu entry.

At least (the last but not the least), how can I edit the TODs ? Must I edit the file "tipoftheday.htm" with any text editor, or is there any other possibility, ie directly in TOD window ?

Anyway, XY becomes greater day by day.

I believe every tip title is a link, click on it to jump to the tip itself

If you're not using a fresh installation, you might have to define the KS as every new KS is not assigned on upgrades. To do so, open CKS (menu Tools), go to the command "Help/Tip of the Day", press Default, Assign and Ok
Or, if you never defined any manual KS and only uses default ones, simply click on "Reset All..."

No, to add your own tips you should create a new file called tipoftheday_user.htm (with the text editor of your choice, yes)

Click on the tips to read them. (should I underline them to that clearer??)

Newly added shortcuts need to be explicitly activated in "Customize Keyboard Shortcuts".

I can't read any TipOfTheDay when clicking on it in the list opened by Shift-A. Nothing happens. I'm under Vista Home, with Firefox as default browser. I've installed Winhlp32 (so help works). My Vista is totally updated.

Any idea ?

Puuh, that's hard to debug...

The link's HTML looks like this:
<a class=tip href="#6">7. Stop a search</a><br>

Maybe it was a stupid idea to (ab)use "#" in this context, but I'm not sure what this has to do with being on vista / using FF...

Can other Vista users click them???

I am not a Vista user but how does one get the version to correct A & shift A? I have re-downloaded but the error persists!

I haven't yet re-installed and tested, but my current 6.40 Install.exe vers shows as 895,479 bytes whereas the original vers shows as 895,315 bytes, so there IS a difference in the two...which one do you have?

Update: Just tried it...it STILL crashes!! So Don, your secret fix is hiding where???

I downloaded the archive version listed in the beta thread and it works fine for me now.

Ok, so in prior attempt, I had just executed the install and nothing changed in crash process...this time, I first specifically deleted the XYplorer.exe and then re-ran the install...now it doesn't crash!
So maybe: Did the installer not actually replace the EXE since it was the identical 6.40 vers nbr?

Aplogies for the earlier bolding, but seems I wasn't the only one with issue.

I might be off there, but isn't Shift+A supposed to create a list of all tips, with text! So you should get every tip one after the other, both title & content/text/actuak tip included.

In other words, there's nothing to click there, only read & scroll. (Well, the tip's titles are still link to the tip alone, but there's no need to click really.)
