XYPlorer slow...cleanup tools?

Hi,
My XYPlorer has been running slower and slower in recent times. Slow to start, slow to open folders, refresh,...and with the occasional crash as well. Is there some utility in XYPlorer to 'clean up' the app, to make it run faster? Or any idea what might be the cause otherwise?

On a possibly related topic, because of the above problem, to be safe I did my first backup of the Application Data Folder and was surprised to find that while almost every folder or file was very small as I'd expect, I did have a 700Mb 'Thumbnails' folder?! What is it, can I shrink it some how?
Thanks!

Are XYplorer.exe and XYcopy.exe excluded in your Antivirus / Security tool(s)?

Post the result after executing this script command as well:

Code: Select all

text get("loadtimes");
You can delete the contents of that thumbnail folder it you don't want permanent thumbnails
And turn this off if you don't like the behavior:
Configuration | Preview | Thumbnails | Cache thumbnails on disk

I don't have any addon AV, just Microsoft Windows Defender...is that a known issue, should I exclude XYplorer from it?
Thumbnails...it's exactly what the name implies? cache of photos & videos screenshot I've viewed in XY? I might delete it or not if the size bothers me but I just wanted to know if it could be a possible reason why XY is slow?

Here's the script result:

should I exclude XYplorer from it?
XYplorer.exe AND XYcopy.exe
cache of photos & videos screenshot I've viewed in XY?
Of photos, not video screenshots
415 ms: 455 ms - Load Maxi Tree
MaxiTree: Rows=1598, Nodes=1598, Expanded=99, Mapped Drives=2
Nearly half a second because of the huge tree...

Exclude both .exes from within MS Defender and reduce the tree -> Slowness should be gone

WOW! Massive difference with the Defender exclusions! Thanks! :appl:

About the Tree....how do i go about reducing it without changing my entire HD folder structures??

E.g. use a minitree instead and only show those items that you need constant access to
and if this is not wanted, live with the current situation. Displaying 1,5k items takes a few milliseconds...

Collapse some large folders that you currently don't use.

Or, if you don't need it, simply untick this:
Configuration | General | Tree and List | Tree | Remember state of tree

A network related path in a tab or a mapped network drive in the tree...

Check the usual suspects:
Configuration | General | Controls and More | Network | Assume that servers are available
Configuration | General | Controls and More | Network | Pre-check availability of servers
Configuration | General | Controls and More | Network | Cache network servers

Yeah I figured the only culprit could be my slow NAS because I have a SSD as my system drive so it's never really a bottleneck, but on startup XY doesn't browse to a network location anyway it just says not available until I refresh or change location, so I didn't think it should slow it down that much.

Anyway I have no complaints and didn't mean to waste your time answering, I was just showing the OP he isn't in too bad a shape.

My current settings when the test was run:

I'd say everything over 1 sec start time is being in a bad shape with XYplorer. I will try to increase the resolution of "Go Start Path" to narrow down the problem.

I didn't mean to drag you into making changes, if you are getting involved I should add that it is only slow on initial boot, subsequent loading times are more like this:

Code: Select all

XY ver: XYplorer 18.70.0006
OS: Windows 10, 64-bit
Loaded: 2018-02-03 03:46:58 in 742 ms

     0 ms: 67 ms - Start Load
    67 ms: 18 ms - Init Language
    85 ms: 13 ms - Load Language
    98 ms: 8 ms - Load Settings
106 ms: 65 ms - Init Custom File Icons
   171 ms: 9 ms - Init Controls
   180 ms: 27 ms - Init Graphics
   207 ms: 6 ms - Init Tabs
213 ms: 14 ms - Create Info Panel
227 ms: 19 ms - Set Interface Font
   246 ms: 13 ms - Init Panes
   259 ms: 0 ms - Init Tree
259 ms: 0 ms - Add Spec Folders
259 ms: 0 ms - Add Links Folder
259 ms: 0 ms - Add Desktop Folder
259 ms: 0 ms - Add Documents Folder
259 ms: 0 ms - Add Downloads Folder
259 ms: 0 ms - Add User Folder
259 ms: 2 ms - Drives To Array
   261 ms: 5 ms - Add Drives
266 ms: 2 ms - Add Portable Devices
268 ms: 0 ms - Init Start Path
   268 ms: 58 ms - Tab Icons
   326 ms: 5 ms - Load Tags
331 ms: 0 ms - Load Folder Size Cache
331 ms: 148 ms - Go Start Path
479 ms: 15 ms - Init Custom Toolbar Buttons
494 ms: 5 ms - Init UDC and KS
499 ms: 45 ms - Load This Pane
544 ms: 9 ms - Load Other Pane
   553 ms: 7 ms - Layout Window
   560 ms: 0 ms - Layout Catalog
   560 ms: 145 ms - Layout List
   705 ms: 16 ms - Show Window
   721 ms: 0 ms - Layout Catalog
   721 ms: 19 ms - Layout List
   740 ms: 2 ms - Init Menus
   742 ms: - Load Done

MaxiTree: Rows=13, Nodes=17, Expanded=2, Mapped Drives=2
Check Existence of Subfolders in Tree: Yes
Pane 1: Items=26/89, Network, Pane 2: Items=4/11, Catalog: Items=1

But if I have fully shut down the computer the first time it is launched is very noticeably slow, and I am of course sure to wait until my computers startup tasks are well and truly finished, but like I said, I have no worries about it.

Well, I probably cannot make it any faster. Network is a bitch. But I'm just curious to see where exactly the time is spent. Next version might shed a little more light.
