Hi!

I reinstalled system and after XYplorer restore in catalogs appeared white spaces (or empty items).
First Q is:
When I moved any item under any empty space it creates subcategory of category in catalog:
expanded: compacted: and I can edit properties of subcategory: Problem is that I don't know how to create it really by me - even, when I try to move this subcategory to any order in catalog category, XYplorer always crashes, even removing these items is impossible - so how to handle these items?

Right click on white space in the category pane, "Add New Category..."?

No, this way creates category of catalog, not subcategory of category.
What with white spaces deleting? Normal method - delete from catalog - works not - does nothing.
Also - how to move white spaces? If I try to move it up or down in catalog XYplorer always crashes.
White spaces are subcategories without names...

Describe exactly how you create a subcategory and show a non-cropped screenshot of your catalog window

Before system reinstall I knew that subcategories doesn't exist - but exist and are possible!
I found it by moving items for sorting and always when I drag item line below white space it created subcategory.
I was surprised, very satisfied that missing component was found... but when I tried to sort subcategories (or white spaces) then XYplorer always crashed.
So, I wanted to remove unused white spaces - but it is impossible - never disappear - even how many times you try to delete, it deletes next category - not subcategory - normal category!
Exist any catalog DAT file editor to investigate what it is and how to modify it?

But to my catalog with two subcategories:
here's catalog where are both subcategories expanded: here are both compacted: here's expanded first and compacted second: and here's expanded second and compacted first: You can see at bottom of catalog also white spaces...

This is a bug, not a feature.

Is strongly advice to overwrite your catalog.dat with an older version, which doesn't
contain these subcategories. If you don't have one you could try to export the
correctly working categories and reimport these catalogs into a new one (context menus)

Didn't test this procedure...

I have no choice - all backups were I think corrupted - never found corect catalog file.

I tried to edit catalog CAT files with Notepad 3, Notepad++, Robust DAT editor and even simple Wordpad - never success to display it correctly, so not possible to correct it.

I my eyes can this "bug" give message to developers that creating subcategories is useful and really good - simple add this not as "bug" - add it as feature to XYplorer!
I like it, only empty white spaces makes me problem.

Can you recommend me any catalog DAT editor? If is no one available add it to install/zip package of XYplorer release.

It's a binary file, there isn't any specific editor for it. Don would need to reveal how this file
is created...

Not so big problem to display it in HxD Hexeditor... I tried.
I see, or think it uses Unicode characters and in file/folder paths ANSI.
Only don't understand some points of bytes - but I think longer study of no only one file will show structure - each catalog has same structure, or not?
So, please forward to developers that catalog editor will be useful.

LEFT click one of your "empty white spaces" then RIGHT click then press shift + del.
This should remove it . Repeat on other "empty white spaces".

I tried this but could not create anything irregular or a crash.

If you send me your catalog file I can try to look into it, fix the crash, repair it, and send it back.

Thanks for the catalog. I'll look into it.

BTW, I'm not so much for further sub-categories. Too deep, too dark, too complex.

OK, checked your catalog.

- Did not get any crash.
- Still don't understand how you managed to get into this mess.
- Added a self-repair routine: In the next version you will be able to delete these empty items one by one via the normal "Remove from Catalog" command in the item context menu.

Problem is that I created it not - after system install I restored XYplorer and catalog had this defect - or not finished new feature...

Can you send me repaired catalog?
