Context menu, quick exit button and ZIP-archives

Hi Donald

Found a couple of problems with TV3:

1) Installed TV3 on a friends machine (+/- 200MHz, XP) and gave him a quick tour of the many nice features, but the list button on the Find files / Date tab / Between didn' show a list, but did exit TV3 without a hint of an error message.

2) I installed a couple of TV3's beta's in the past weeks. (always in the same directory and as recommended, but maybe not always logged on as the same user in W2K)
Now I got two "Track..." entries in the context menu and can't get rid of them anymore. (Switching off the corresponding option in config has no effect at all)

3) When working with zip-archives I used to extract the files by dragging them to the correct folder in windows explorer, but if I try to do the same with TV3, I get an error message, telling me, that the file can't be read and therefore not extracted.

Thanks for your help

Whoa, got it and fixed it.

Interesting! I'll try to reproduce that. In the meantime you may want to remove them manually (Regedit):
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Drive\Shell\Track...
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Directory\Shell\Track...
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Folder\Shell\Track...

Yep, bugger. Definitely in the top ten of known issues.

Context menu

Hi Donald

With the new Beta (0138) the switch in the config for the context menu works again, ...well partially.
It switches on/off the entrie(s) in the context menues, but I still got my two "Track..." entries which are switched on/off simultaneously.

I checked regedit in both states of the switch:
- there are these entries in the registry:
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Drive\Shell\Track...
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Directory\Shell\Track...
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Folder\Shell\Track...
when the switch is on
- with the switch off, there are no entries in the registry

So, I still don't know where the second entry in the context menues comes from?!?

Thanks for help

From your infos I conclude that these settings are by user (by Windows account). The reason for the double entries maybe that one was set for "all users" and one for a specific user. I'm not sure, I'm no expert at this, and I could not reproduce it. It looks like something between a miracle and a Windows bug
Try to remember under which name you logged in and remove the setting everywhere.

From TrackerV3's point of view just 3 Reg keys are set (the only ones that the app ever sets!). Nowhere I make any decision about the current user.

Hi Donald

I tried it again with the latest beta (0141) but the button still does a "Quick Exit"!?

Because of the bug your INI probably is in a state it should not be in. To correct it select any date type ("modified", etc.) on the Date tab.

Hi Donald

No, because the bug (with the two Track... entries) is on my system. The "Quick exit button" happens on my friends XP system only

No, I'm talking about the "Quick Exit" bug - it happens when nothing is selected in the date type combo (Date tab, next to "Not"-checkbox). Since I fixed it, it is not possible anymore to select nothing, but since your friend's INI was written while the bug still existed the setting "nothing" (a value of -1 in this case) went down to the INI and will stay until you explicitly set the date type combo to any value e.g. to "modified".
All this has nothing to do with the two Track... entries.

Ok Donald

I got it and it works now on my friends machine as well.

Thanks
