Hi, while I understand that the tag database is supposed to be easily edited using a text editor, I believe there should be a form of compression applied to the database. If needed, it could be an option, the first line mentioning if the database is or isn't compressed.

I have a huge audio collection, all with tags indicating genre and years, which take over a gb in size just to tag it.
What I suggest is, instead of writing the full path to the files everytimes, it should give the path and make it longer only when there's a change in directory.
This way, the same path wouldn't be copied over and over.

I suppose the current format is much easier to parse.
While talking about compression, even a lightest zip or similar compression can save lot space while being very fast.

None that is not contrived (and unstable), I'm afraid.

There's a plan to convert all config files to human-readable text scheme (try opening udc.dat, fvs.dat as text). Perhaps after this is done, we can request compressed storage.

ed. If you've put XY config on an NTFS partition, then NTFS compression should provide a pretty good transparent compromise.
