I had a file copy need the other day which required a copy to multiple tabs. Is this possible without going through the normal copy source to one destination?

What I intuitively wanted was having selected the source was to hold Shift key and select multiple taps and then continue the copy.

It is not possible currently. But I know the task well. Everytime I update the helpfile, I have to copy the new version to 4 different places. And everytime I have to concentrate to remember all of those places, find them in the tree and do the copying one by one.

Okay, I could create a Catalog Category and compile the destinations there. Then it would be just 4 times drag'n'drop.

But just like ";" can separate different locations in the Location box (Find Files), I could make good use of a multi-destination syntax in Copy/Move/Backup To:
Destination1;Destination2;Destination3;Destination4.

It won't happen now but it's an idea to follow up...

It uses The Rename http://www.herve-thouzard.com/modules/w ... rticleid=1 and takes a bit to get your head around but once you've got the concept it works well. I haven't used it for some time because I don't have the requirement to make copies to multiple folders at the moment.

The dumb question that brings up is: Are the places each time the same? If so, couldn't that be stored in a .BAT files using DOS Copy so you'd just have to run the batch file? (Similar to the solution I created when I needed to concatenate a fixed header/trailer file onto a set of exsisting file...)

Yeah, then you could add a "Paste to All Items in Category" to go along with the "Copy All Items in Category"

I support both this and the multi-destination copy syntax.

BTW, there was a mention of adding date templates to NewItems menu. Well, it could be useful on Catalog items as well. So one could have an item to jump to, or move/copy to, a folder that would have a name based on current date.

+1 for this feature. I have had such a situation where i had to copy the same thing over and over again to different folders. Jacky's bat copy tip helped me then, but to have such a feature within XY would be great.

I'd like to raise this thread.
It would be very convenient to separate different locations by semicolons in the location box for multi-destination copy and move. Plus the possibility to choose several paths by ctrl+click in the list of dialogue Copy to... / Move to...
