PPTP (or MTP)

My cell phone (Android Galaxy S8+) uses the latest version of Android 7.0 which does not allow Mass Storage mounting - only PPTP and MTP protocols are supported, which means that it shows up in File Explorer, but not in XYPLORER. Is there a way to get the device's files and folders to display and if not, is this a big enhancement request?

I don't know why Android no longer supports the Mass Storage Protocol - anyone? And if XYPLORER can't currently do this, is it worthy of consideration?

No - and I'm on W10 64 bit if that is of concern.

Anyone? Samsung Galaxy S8+ when plugged in is recognized by MS Explorer but not by XYPlorer.

That's a known issue with the Creators Update. It's on my list.

Has this been addressed yet? If not, any idea of when it might be?

Working on it. Can't give a date.

On Windows 7 (32bit) .
Drag-drop from a MTP list seems to work, but XYplorer crashes immediately after mouse button is released. (Nothing is transferred either.)

- Is that a left or a right mouse drop?
- Is this ticked? Configuration | Other | Shell Integration | Drag and Drop | Use standard shell drag and drop

  • Left-button drag.

It is now. Now I get a memory read error.

    Code: Select all

    XYplorer.exe - Application Error
    ---------------------------
The instruction at 0x77d85585 referenced memory at 0x00000024. The memory could not be read.

Click on OK to terminate the program.
  • Right-button drag:
shows a context menu. Choosing Copy Here/Move Here has the opposite effect of left-click-drag: crashes right away if Use standard shell drag and drop is checked, and memory read error otherwise.
Shell Context Menu items work properly. (Well, because they're shell-provided, obviously.)

Ugh.

Have mercy with me, but did you already reboot Windows? Looks like one of those Windows hickups...

Yes. (As well as reattaching the device). But not after toggling Use standard shell drag and drop. Restarting now...

Thanks.

Anybody else on Win 7 using MTP?

Yes, I've tried to get XYplorer to work (and not crash) with
Windows 7. I am using Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit on a dual Xeon
E5620 machine with 64GB of ECC memory. I get the same bad
results as others have reported in this thread.

XYplorer also fails on Win 10 (Pro, 64-bit, all versions up to
and including 1703).

As an FYI, in 2015 I posted this defect as a bug.
