Preview: Video files show no controls

I recently upgraded to XYplorer 17.90.0300. When previewing video files, there are no playback controls. I don't know if I lost it on this upgrade or an earlier one, since I don't preview videos very often. Audio preview works fine. A much older version (13.90) on my other computer (#2) works fine, also on Win10 Home. When I select a video on that machine, you can see the "Loading" message for a reasonable time, but on this machine (#1) the "Loading" message flashes so quickly that I had not even seen it until many tries.

So, I copied the XYPlorer 13.90 folder from computer #2 to a USB stick and ran it in computer #1, and the same problem exists. I'm stymied. Ideas?

You probably have some video codecs installed on #2 that don't exist on #1.
Install e.g. the K-Lite Codec package (Basic is sufficient)

Thanks for the tip, I checked into that. The codec site says it can be uninstalled from the control panel or menu. I don't see anything installed in my "Programs and Features", nor any entry in the menu. I don't know how to uninstall codecs, but it's not highly likely I installed a codec pack since I rarely do anything with video files.

Suggestions? TIA.

I tried it in a VM. Windows Server 2016 (is still a Windows 10 variant).
No codec package -> No controls
K-Lite installed, controls show up in the preview pane...

Clearly I need a remedial reading class. I misread your first reply, getting computer #1 and #2 backwards in my mind, and thinking I had to remove a codecs package. I appreciate your time and assistance! THANK YOU!
