Thank you for such a great software!

Don, thank you for XYplorer. Please keep on improving this jewel.

And for all who want to learn some Austrian, here is my verdict in my native tongue:
"XYplorer isch a gfiarigs Werkzeig" (I think Don will be glad to translate this because GoogleTranslate won't make it ;-)

Yeah, now XYplorer has a score of 5 out of 5 on heise.de/software (for me the best software directory in Germany).

If you sort the list of all file managers by score XYplorer is on the first page (on a list of over 160 applications that's never a disadvantage, I think).

Maybe someone searching for a good WindowsExplorer replacement will give it a try.

It's always hard to get publicity when there are some really famous file managers out there (Total Commander, Speed Commander, Directory Opus). A lot of people so never get the chance to try such a great tool like XYplorer.

I personally became aware of XYplorer via TheGreatSoftwareList.
My thanks go to zridling ;-)

gfiarigs... hmm... I'm not better than google here :) Let me guess: it means "extremely cool", right?

That's absolutely right , but it can have a lot of other meanings.

Here in some parts of Tyrol (e.g. Zillertal) you use the word "gfiarig" to describe things which are extremely useful, make a lot of fun and are - of course - extremely cool .

All attributes which describe XYplorer for me.

Don, I'm really looking forward to all the improvements you have on your roadmap.

me too!
These sources of recommendation are very good. Does Don or others update Gizmo and others of new exiting additions to XY? If not, they should, as this provides Gizmo material to include in the next edition of his Support Alert news Letter.

I think there is only a handful of file managers in the same league as XYplorer: Total Commander, Speed Commander, Directory Opus, Xplorer (maybe AltapSalamander, EF Commander).

The problem is not that XYplorer can't compete with them, the problem is that most of them are around for a lot of years and have loyal followers. If a magazine publishes a review of file managers all of them are included.

I don't know if Don already tried to contact the publishers of computer magazines in the past, but I think that would be a good way to get more publicity.

I personally came in contact with SpeedCommander because there was a free version (an older one) included on a CD which accompanied the computer magazine "c't". This older version allowed to upgrade to the newest one for a discount price. I used it for some weeks (because it was free and I wanted something better than WindowsExplorer) and got so used to it that I upgraded.

Now I know XYplorer and I like it even better

What I want to say is, that XYplorer has all the potential, it only needs more publicity.

Sources of recommendation like TheGreatSoftwareList or Gizmo, comments in boards and reviews are a great way to start with.

XYplorer is also around since 1998, but under a different name! I made the probably most stupid business decision of my life when I called it TrackerV3 in those days. But at those times it was mainly a file finder (hence Tracker) and the domain tracker.com was gone, so... ... "XYplorer" under this name exists only 1.5 years! For this short time is doing quite okay. :)

It's difficult to reach magazines. I have tried it several times. If you don't have a dual pane they immediately hate you. There's a serious Anti-Singlepanism! I hope they all get fired one day for their ignorance!

Fully ACK.

(1) Promotion
(2) new license policy (more choices; no more cheap lifetime license)
(3) GUI polishing
(4) Of all features on the roadmap, I think and hope that Undo has the potential to become a killer feature!

I have to confess that I can understand them

Before I tried XYplorer I could not imagine that I would ever use a file manager without dual pane.

The problem is that the average user on her search for a WindowsExplorer replacement will come across the Big Three (Total Commander, Directory Opus, Speed Commander). All of them have dual pane and all of them are so much better than WindowsExplorer. So the user thinks she has found the Holy Grail and her character gets stamped by her antipathy for single pane file managers.

And one really can't blame them because almost all of the single pane file managers are products of poor quality and don't excel WindowsExplorer.

There is only one way one can overcome this mindset of Anti-Singlepanism: The user has to give XYplorer a try.

I think we all here will try to help you, Don, to promote your wonderful product via multi-channel marketing. A review here, a posting there or an email to an editor can sometimes make the difference

And I believe I was the one who passed the word to Gizmo about XY...I don't want any credit, but I've tried to help when I can...

I was recently (in last month or so) in touch via email with a few other similar sites/newletters/magazines, and tried to get XY some attention...so far, I haven't seen any results, but I tried...even calling one...and Neil Rubenking of PC Magazine said he's out of loop now and they don't do reviews like they used to, so not much chance there... :(

Great! Reading this (and agreeing totally) I think the best strategy is to aggressively stress XY's Singlepanism! Something like "Multi-tab beats dual-pane!", or "The dawn of dual pane!", "Post-dual-pane file management is here!" etc.

XYplorer tab browsing feature is IMHO the most important thing in XYplorer.(except its speed and lightness) DO for example has also some kind of tabs but the tab browsing feature is more limited in DO.

XYplorer tabs mimics the behaviour of Firefox tabs, which makes XY's tabs very simple to use.

In Firefox was the big thing it's tab browsing feature, which other competitors soon followed...

Maybe you should even more emphasize the tabs in XY...or what do you think?

No time to elaborate much but I, too, thought I had found the Grail with the DPs, but I listened to Gizmo, tried XY and bought it before the week was up... cuz as it turns out, tabs is better than DPs! :!: 8)
