If you're getting bored, I could offer you some work in getting more of the old updates posted to the new blog! :P

Personally, I really love not having that excess overhead to see and ignore...and IF there is someone here still back on dial-up access, it becomes a real PITA for them...I know...I was dealing with it for quite a while until about 2 yrs ago...

Now IF avatars are keep under control and mininal, they're not that bad, but excess avatars have driven me away from using certain forums that I really needed info/help from...

Privoxy will block those annoying avatars

@j_c_hallgren

I know exactly what you mean.
At one site I used to go to one of the admins had the userid, Swampmami, and she had the most unpleasant avatar, I wondered if it was from a horror movie.

May I suggest you try Privoxy:
http://www.privoxy.org/

Description from the site:
"Privoxy is a web proxy with advanced filtering capabilities for protecting privacy, modifying web page data, managing cookies, controlling access, and removing ads, banners, pop-ups and other obnoxious Internet junk. Privoxy has a very flexible configuration and can be customized to suit individual needs and tastes. Privoxy has application for both stand-alone systems and multi-user networks."

With Privoxy I was able to block specific jpgs from that particular site, in addition to deanimating some annoying gifs as well.

It's mainly the excess screen space that avatars often create...for example, serendipity's original post here takes about one inch of vertical space now on my system...with an avatar, it would take about twice that...so it makes reading a concise thread about impossible...for those replies that are lengthy, it's often not as bad, depending on where the avatar is placed.

That's why some of us have made our signature lines in smaller fonts, so it takes less room...avatars would, IMHO, make it harder to follow the topic...if it' possible to have a pix/avatar that is only visible via profile view, that would be ok with me...

Personally, if Privoxy could block signatures I would block them too...

:D

But seriously, since Privoxy doesn't actually download blocked images, the issue of excess bandwidth and screen usage essentially becomes a non-issue.

 So....ya think mine is too much, huh?
It evolved over time and now helps me quickly spot my posts in thread...plus it gives a clue to others about my configuration and XY status, which can be helpful at times...I don't mind any sig that is similar...I tried to keep it as minimal as possible, yet be complete and bit unique...

Well, since you are asking... :P ... a decent black and a smaller font size would enhance your style. And, remove the icons...

Ok...as you see, I pulled the  and  ..and reduced first line font size a bit..but I still like the blue, sorry! (It's my fav color)

Hope that's better now.

Oh yes, much better. Apart from the blue, of course.
