WTF! Malwarebytes TRASHED Xyplorer as RANSOMWARE!

Okay, with that eyeball-grabbing headline out of the way ...

I was trying to move 2,800+ files from a Dropbox synced folder to a local folder.
418 files in, Malwarebytes Popped up an ominous message:

Ransomware Blocked.

You know how quickly those pop-ups go away, but I had enough time to see xyplorer and the icon in the message.
Next thing I know, Xyplorer had been closed. Since it is pinned to my taskbar, I clicked it.

My customized settings apparently reverted to an older configuration file: my catalogs and open tabs were different.

Has this behavior been reported? I searched forums using Malwarebytes as keyword, but no information, as far as I can tell.

Well, it's not XY's fault, of course.

The bloody AV industry creates this kind of useless chaos millions of times each day all over the planet. But instead of going to hell they even seem to get bigger.

Solution: Uninstall the crap.

False positives happen. The most appropriate mitigation strategy is to have regular backups so that you can recover to a desired point in time.

Thanks for a more professional answer. :)

(It just sucks when you have to say the same thing again and again...)

For what it's worth:

(I have to admit that I still have AVs installed on my PCs)

With malware spreading like STDs during Spring Break, I am never against having protection. But just like you should protect yourself from the big bad wolves out there, one should be covered in terms of threats from within: false positives, hardware failures, etc. Wouldn't it be nice if XY backed up itself to the cloud every X hours/days so that you could restore stuff very easily? :P
