is there a way to have a toolbar above the panes where you can put your favorite folders so you can just click that favorite folder in the toolbar and the active pane with go there? and same question, but instead of a folder favorite, an application or file favorite to launch.

There are no other toolbars than the main one. Why don't you place the favorite folders and favorite files buttons on it at a place where they are right over your left pane?
