Say I have 10 tabs 1-10 and I want to navigate from tab-1 to tab-5. If I use ctrl+tab keys, i have to open tabs 2, 3, 4 before i arrive at tab-5.
Is it possible to disable opening of tabs until i release the keys? The tab cycle procedure can get tedious if one has long lists with thumbsview or find file tabs etc.
Additionally, such cycling without opening a tab is a standard thing in browsers.

This is a very sensible wish. I think this behaviour should be default... f curse it wouldn't matter if we had list caching...

Oops! I forgot that XYplorer already has ctrl+shift+t and tablist button which lists the open tabs from where one can click-through to any other tab. But still, i would find the standard browser way much easier. just wondering how many would find this useful.

Firefox and IE both open tabs as you cycle through, don't they? But alt+tab to cycle through open applications doesn't bring them up until you stop on one. It's true though that when you have a tab with thumbnails, it's a pain waiting for them to appear.

The real question I have in connection with your post is: why do thumbnails take so long to open up in XY, and why, while they are opening, is it difficult to *smoothly* move to another tab or scroll through the tab with the thumbnails? Does this have to do with list caching as Luke mentions???

, indeed IE doesnt use this way of cycling (I thought the world functions the opera way). Well, in that case all i can say is, I would prefer ctrl+tab to not open every tab until i release it (for obvious reasons like thumbs, findfile tabs etc).

@panorama: have you tried super-fast thumbnail creation from Tools>configuration>thumbnails?

I had activated super-fast thumbnails, but not thumbnail caching . Now I'm a happy boy ; I only need to wait once for the thumbnails to open, afterwards the folder appears instantaneously (even when cycling through tabs). This wouldn't help for findfiles, so I'd be inclined to vote for your requested behavior Serendipity.

Oh ok, caching is good. I should say that XY is actually quite fast listing contents. Also with the results tab, second search is way faster. But still with the disable list option I can forget about thumbsview tab, findfiles tab, show folder sizes tab, unavailable share on network etc before cycling to the tab i need. Good that we have tablist icon now.

I like the idea of cycling without opening!

Alas, not easy to implement. Does this stop me? No! I found a way... looks like it works alright...

Wow! I just tried the tab cycling and I am loving it.

This was a bold claim! Actually I found this behavior to be quite rare (but good anyway!). So, today I changed things a little, shifting a bit of work to you delay-cyclers...

. Yeah, I realised that in my subsequent posts (but i remember seeing this in one other browser apart from Opera). Anyway, changing CKS takes few seconds. back to delay cycle. Thanks anyway.

I believe they are, but only on fresh install, or after you used "Reset All". Otherwise, you indeed need to add them manually (cause you could have add them assign to another command...).

That's the way it works for all new KS ever since CKS have been implemented
